This is a more recent version of TLJ, which runs under Windows XP and fixes several crash issues. The game still uses DirectX 7 interfaces, and DirectDraw.
There is a downloadable demo on the company website http://www.longestjourney.com/ that makes for a good testcase (exact same code as the game itself).

What works
Installation by running setup.exe directly from the disc and starting the game.
What does not
Autorun launcher on the CD won't load. Characters don't display correctly. It looks like the shading (black triangles) is displayed, but nothing else.
When trying to exit the game via the menu at the top a grey box appears and the mouse cursor disappears making it impossible to exit by normal means; the process has to be killed from the console.
Workarounds
What was not tested
Gameplay beyond the opening area, graphical glitches make it almost impossible to complete the puzzles.
Hardware tested

Additional Comments
If you move far enough for the next scene to be displayed it's as though the character "jumps" into it.
