Launcher after some fiddling.
What does not
The game itself.
Installed corefonts and dotnet45 from winetricks. Set my OS back to Win7 in winecfg as dotnet45 winetrick changes it to 2003. Launcher works great besides some graphical issues.
What was not tested
After some struggle getting this to work, launching the game gives some simple fixme warnings of unimplemented DX11 calls, causing a software crash. The most common one being "00b5:fixme:d3d11:d3d_blend_state_create Per-rendertarget blend not implemented." Maybe in a future wine version this will be implemented.

Disabling IPv6 in the Linux kernel (e.g. via ipv6.disable=1 in your kernel boot options) will cause the Elite Dangerous launcher to fail to load with an error stating:
Exception Initialising Application: Error creating the Web Proxy specified in the...
You'll need to allow IPv6 support in the kernel by enabling IPv6 (or at least not disabling it) for the launcher to actually work.
