Reason 10 GDI errors
by Glenn Van Acker on Sunday November 28th 2021, 7:56
I tested this with proton 6, because it already has the vulkan support and it works the same way,
after running the demo file for a few seconds I see GDI errors popping up in the log:

err: D3D11: Failed to create GDI DC
00c8:fixme:d2d:d2d_device_context_DrawTextLayout Failed to draw text layout, hr 0x80004005.
00c8:err:gdi:alloc_gdi_handle out of GDI object handles, expect a crash

This happens with both native and builtin gdiplus dlls.
not sure what is causing this, maybe it's not releasing object handles properly.
For the menu bug: is is possible to try the old wine 1.6 reason menu patch in newer wine versions?
don't know if that would fix it, but I can't find the patch itself, and 1.6 is sort of deprecated.
UI elements render black? Try this!
by Sam on Thursday November 18th 2021, 3:27
I've recently given this another go. Some UI elements did not render, so I did the following (wine-6.16-Staging):
- Copied DXVK dll's to the Reason directory. DXVK is a well-known translation layer for DirectX->Vulkan. Google for it and you'll find it fairly easily.
- In 'winecfg', created an override for "Reason.exe". Set version to 'Windows 10', and in 'Libraries', add all the DXVK dll's and set them to 'native'.
- Open up Reason and get to the main UI. Access the menu bar by pressing ALT _once_ and then Down. Navigate through these menus until you find "Preferences".
- Set the theme to "Dark". Restart Reason.

You should now be able to see most, if not all, UI elements. The menu bar remains broken. There's also no HiDPI support, so either squint or set a different resolution in your DE temporarily.
