What works

Played some hours and not noticed issues within the game play

What does not

Game startup in black screen

Workarounds

1. The mentioned issue with the black screen. It was required to copy the DX dlls. See Howto below in order to fix

2. Installation of recent DXVK to avoid low FPS and graphical artifacts.

What was not tested

Everything within a few hours of playtime seems to be okay

Hardware tested

Graphics:

  • GPU: Nvidia
  • Driver: proprietary

Additional Comments

By just using wine the game is basically starting with workarrounds but does have an extremly poor performance (15-20FPS) and lots of graphical artifacts. By using DXVK with latest wine and vulkan, it is working very nice with nearly stable 60 FPS. I don't have a windows system as reference, but the loading time between scenes seems sometimes slower than I might expect them. However, they are not blocking the game and I would call it overall absolutely playable. Thus there is a lot of manual work required as workarounds, I would give it max a silver rating at the moment.

HowTo / Notes

Fixing and tweaking KC:D

Black screen issue

If your game starts into a black screen, go to the game's folder and copy over the DLLs  (or override them) d3dcompiler_46.dll and d3dcompiler_47.dll:

- Source: drive_c/Program Files/Steam/steamapps/common/KingdomComeDeliverance/Bin/Win64Shared/

- Destination: drive_c/Program Files/Steam/steamapps/common/KingdomComeDeliverance/Bin/Win64/

Floating artifacts

If you see floating graphical artifacts in the game, they most likely come from water bodys anywhere. Set your water quality in the advanced graphics to at least "Very High", this will make it disappear.

Poor performance, low FPS

For now you should stick with the latest wine-staging (at the time writing this is 2.21), as non-staging gives very poor performance even on good machines (currently only nvidia tested). Hopefully a new maintainer for staging is soon to be found, as the staging patches drastically increase performance for KC:D.

Savegames lost?

Most likely the path to your "Windows Documents folder" just changed in your WINE configuration. Open winecfg in your KC:D wine prefix and double-check, if you set a Documents folder. I set mine simply to my ~/Documents, which is a convenient option if you want to have fast access to files like your savegames or your player's profile (settings and stuff). Helpful pic

How to make Kingdom Come work in Wine
by AsciiWolf on Tuesday April 9th 2019, 10:46
Works great, just copy d3dcompiler_46.dll, d3dcompiler_47.dll and (only if you use AMD graphics card) amd_ags_x64.dll from steamapps/common/KingdomComeDeliverance/Bin/Win64Shared/ to /steamapps/common/KingdomComeDeliverance/Bin/Win64/. Also, consider using DXVK to have better framerates.

I found this URL with lots of details about its installation in wine. Maybe this information can be copied here? forum.kingdomcomerpg.com/t/linux-running-kc-d-with-wine/41173
Looking for more bugs and tweaks
by Trollwut on Tuesday February 20th 2018, 2:03
Hey guys, first of all, sorry for the heavy editing of the "Workaround" sections, you might have got some mail. Now I know what I do!

Ok, I added the copying of two DLLs to fix black screen, a fix for graphical artifacts and mentioned to use wine-staging. If you find out any more tipps or tweaks for the game, I consider to add them, too.

Currently the game runs "pretty ok" for a new title in WINE and for now *only* has some performance issues. On my system (i7-4790k, GTX1080 proprietary, 2560x1440@144Hz) I get between 30-40 FPS ingame on Low-Mid settings (only water quality is on Very High, see workarounds) with wine-staging. On normal wine I get around 10 FPS.

Keeping in mind this is the first day of running KC:D, this is a very good sign to have it running very fine soon. I'm optimistic that there will be more tweaking stuff in a couple of days. We might also consider a Silver rating for KC:D, as the game runs "as normal without bigger problems". The FPS are too low compared to the used hardware, but AFAIK there are no sudden FPS drops, just a rather poor performance - but it's playable as it is meant to be. A newer wine-staging might also solve this.

Would have rated silver already, if I had been able to select wine-staging 2.21 as the tested version. But as I had to pick 3.x, silver would be sort of misleading to people, given the poor performance.

Yeah, there's the same issue with Witcher 3; it's basically gold in 2.21-staging but silver in 3.0. I wish the staging option was still available for now.

3.3-staging has been released frequently
