What works

Played through prologue and half an hour into main game.

What does not

Games starts with black screen.

Water do not render correctly.

Shadow renders incorrectly.

On every restart sound settings resets at 0.

On load mouse stuck in cone (rotations allowed only in ~180 degree arc).

Some times item stats loads as NaN.

Workarounds

Required copy of d3dcompiler_46.dll and d3dcompiler_47.dll as described in this guide.

For for water and shadow bugs I set up a DXVK as a renderer.

Need to adjust sound each time manually. Locking settings file had no efffect.

For mouse to "unstuck" need to enter inventory and select something with a mouse.

Only restart can solve NaN problem, no reliable workaround yet.

What was not tested

Rest of the game.

Hardware tested

Graphics:

  • GPU: AMD
  • Driver: open source

Additional Comments

With Wine 3.5, staging patches and DXVK got 40-50 fps on lowest settings with dips to around 10 fps during loading of a new location (with some texture popping up a little late).

Currently I have quite old system with i5-2500k, RAM 8GB DDR3-1600 and R9 270x. On modern set up game should rum much better.

HowTo / Notes

Fixing and tweaking KC:D

Black screen issue

If your game starts into a black screen, go to the game's folder and copy over the DLLs  (or override them) d3dcompiler_46.dll and d3dcompiler_47.dll:

- Source: drive_c/Program Files/Steam/steamapps/common/KingdomComeDeliverance/Bin/Win64Shared/

- Destination: drive_c/Program Files/Steam/steamapps/common/KingdomComeDeliverance/Bin/Win64/

Floating artifacts

If you see floating graphical artifacts in the game, they most likely come from water bodys anywhere. Set your water quality in the advanced graphics to at least "Very High", this will make it disappear.

Poor performance, low FPS

For now you should stick with the latest wine-staging (at the time writing this is 2.21), as non-staging gives very poor performance even on good machines (currently only nvidia tested). Hopefully a new maintainer for staging is soon to be found, as the staging patches drastically increase performance for KC:D.

Savegames lost?

Most likely the path to your "Windows Documents folder" just changed in your WINE configuration. Open winecfg in your KC:D wine prefix and double-check, if you set a Documents folder. I set mine simply to my ~/Documents, which is a convenient option if you want to have fast access to files like your savegames or your player's profile (settings and stuff). Helpful pic
