What does not

Some textures rendered as solid blue rectangles. Occassionally, such artifacts would appear even when there wasn't an object being rendered, such as a railing that didn't actually exist. This doesn't prevent you from playing the game, but it does look strange.

Workarounds

When the game first loaded in fullscreen, the mouse could not be moved all the way to the bottom or all the way to the right of the screen. Changing resolutions and then changing back fixed this issue.

Additional Comments

Frame rates were lower than under Windows. To match FPS, I had to drop down one preset in-game. The game is still playable, though the lag might hurt in large raids. There were also noticeable frame skips that didn't affect gameplay.

HowTo / Notes

Installation

EQ2 is rated "garbage" with Wine versions above 1.1.18 and below
1.2-rc7. Please install Wine 1.2-rc7 or higher, as 1.1.18 will
necessitate some irritating registry changes, documented below.

When EQ2 starts for the first time, it will try to run in
full-screen mode  This is not supported in Wine, but you can easily
switch to windowed mode by alt-tabbing to another window. If you have a
dual monitor setup, your fonts will then be twice as wide as they
should be; restarting the game fixes this. This isn't true for all users, but it may affect you.

Please ensure your system (and especially your graphics
card) meets the minimum requirements set by Sony Online Entertainment
for running this game.

To run launchpad 3, you need to install ie8 with winetricks.

Suggested registry settings for Wine 1.1.18 (you do not need these for 1.2-rc7 and up):

HKEY_CURRENT_USER -

  Software -

    Wine -

      Direct3D - (you'll have to create this folder)

        DirectDrawRenderer -> opengl

        OffScreenRenderingMode -> fbo (with newer video cards)

        PixelShaderMode -> enabled

        RenderTargetLockMode -> texdraw

Also, for 1.01, you will need to edit eq2.ini to disable some font rendering. Put the following line in eq2.ini:

r_font_ft 0
(Not needed unless you are using wine 1.01 or lower)

For wine 1.1.18 and lower: wine_gecko crashes the patcher screen (no
BITS support in wine yet. See bug 6253) so if you want to run patcher,
rename the HKCU/wine/MSHTML. That should disable Gecko. Or, you can
simply not install wine_gecko in the first place. With 1.27-rc7 some
functionailty of gecko with the launcher may or may not work, but it
wont crash the game.

Instructions for running everquest 2 to run on wine
by Donovan on Wednesday July 18th 2018, 15:26
Hello

I have spent days searching for guides that will enable me to run everquest 2 using wine. But I haven't found any of them that actually work, can you give me a guide that will enable me to run eq2 using wine.

TIA

Donovan.

I've managed to get teh launcher to work, patch the game etc. But I get the message 'everquest 2 requires Directx 9.0c' when running everquest2.exe

Hi

I have played EQ2 in Wine for many many years now.

What I have right now is:
Wine version: 3.11 (Staging) with CSMT Enabled
Libs:
*gdiplus (native)
*mscoree (native)
(not sure you need these, might just have installed them playing around with ACT. But run ACT in another prefix now)

I run the game in Windowed mode.
Now you need to have Windows version 7 set as well.

Also make sure you use the full download client and not the streaming client.
You should not need to install DX9, the one in Wine should work provided you have a fairly new Wine version.

Im on an Nvidia Geforce 980Ti with drivers 396.24
Oh and you prolly want to make sure that the wine prefix you install to is 32bit and not 64 bit.

Nothing else I can think of really. Should not be hard to get to run.
