What works

Login works - projects from cloud displayed (with attempt #1 only).

What does not

Attempt #1: graphics - boot splash won't go away. If click on projects they seem to load behind boot splash. Unusable - cannot do any work. Latter 2 attempts couldn't get application to fully launch.

see below

What was not tested

Hardware tested

  • GPU: Nvidia
  • Driver: proprietary

Additional Comments

Made 3 attempts. With first got launch with severe graphics problems, other 2 attempts couldn't even get full GUI launch. Any recommendations would be much appreciated.

- arch linux, kernel 5.2.3, plasma 5.16.3-1
- NVIDIA discrete graphics w arch 'nvidia' main-repo driver (430.34-3)
- wine 4.12.1-1

attempt 1

Followed this guide:

Git cloned project, ran 1 which includes:
-running winetricks corefonts vcrun2017 win7
-setting wineprefix to pwd
-patching & running installer (streamer.exe)
-user prompts: hit ok for directx confirmation & wine cfg. fusion 360 window appears (just waited a while after) then login window appears - logged in. waited for terminal hang as per github instructions then closed terminal and wine processes

Then performed the following:
-ran 2 for DXVK installation 3 to re-launch fusion. Set graphics to directx9, quit
-re-ran 2 to uninstall DXVK

Upon re-running fusion 360 severe graphics errors: boot splash won't go away, tool-tips seem to remain with application switching. If click on projects they seem to load behind boot splash. Unusable - cannot do any work. :(

attempt 2
Used for basic guideline:

WINEPREFIX=DIR winetricks vcrun2017 corefonts win7 d3d11=builtin

git clone
chmod +x the script
./ f360_temp

* failed w:
  file platform.pyc
  Deparsing stopped due to parse error
* tried using modified script posted in winehq page at:
* then wine up the resulting streamer file/installer:
  * WINEPREFIX=DIR wine streamer.exe
* went through login and waited...
* hangs with creation of desktop entry
* tried launching via cmd line or desktop entry -> same hang:
  0156:err:ntdll:RtlpWaitForCriticalSection section 0x100a8 "../../../wine/dlls/ntdll/heap.c: main process heap section" wait timed out in thread 0156, blocked by 0148, retrying (60 sec)
  * seems indefinite despite initial startup splash
* could not get application gui to open
attempt 3
with more libraries sort of as per:
WINEPREFIX=DIR winetricks atmlib gdiplus msxml3 msxml6 vcrun2017 ie8 corefonts fontsmooth=rgb winhttp win7 d3d11=builtin

note errors include:
  This package (ie8) does not work on a 64-bit installation. You must use a prefix made with WINEARCH=win32.

noted that in winecfg was NOT switched to win7 (seems like halted at ie8)

so re-ran without ie8:
WINEPREFIX=DIR winetricks atmlib gdiplus msxml3 msxml6 vcrun2017 corefonts fontsmooth=rgb winhttp win7 d3d11=builtin

then...disabled d3d11 via winecfg: WINEPREFIX=DIR winecfg

ran script from:

WINEPREFIX=DIR wine DIR/fusion_tmp/tmp/fusion360/tmp.9KqLX0AqOJ/streamer.exe

infinite hang with missing modules (including seemingly starting off with d3d11.dll)

made native d3d11 via winecfg: WINEPREFIX=DIR winecfg

WINEPREFIX=DIR "DIR/drive_c/users/muhuser/Local Settings/Application Data/Autodesk/webdeploy/production/6a0c9611291d45bb9226980209917c3d/FusionLauncher.exe"

seems like infinite hang

tried from auto-created launcher:
env WINEPREFIX="DIR" wine C:\\windows\\command\\start.exe /Unix DIR/dosdevices/c:/users/muhuser/Start\ Menu/Programs/Autodesk/Autodesk\ Fusion\ 360.lnk

Again infinite hang w/o gui launch.

HowTo / Notes

Pre-requisites :

Wine 3.8 arch x64 (Windows version set in "Windows 7" NOT ANY OTHER)

Microsoft Visual runtimes 2017 (vcrun2017)

Install it with the last winetricks for example.

They have some issues with d3d11, you have two solutions :

* Disable lib d3d11 (go to winecfg > libs > add d3d11 > set "disabled")

In this case, you have little problems in main menu, and "gray" parts in some software area... But fusion runs as he can...

* Install dxvk implementation of d3d11 (need a wine version compiled with vulkan support).

winetricks vulkansdk

Download the last release of dlls :

Extract dlls (for example in : ~/.wine//3rdparty_dlls/dxvk/)

cd ~/.wine//3rdparty_dlls/dxvk/[x32/x64]
WINEPREFIX=~/.wine/ ./

(if you have multiple wine versions, add PATH with the good wine into)

To avoid "err:winediag:SECUR32_initNTLMSP ntlm_auth was not found or is outdated. Make sure that ntlm_auth >= 3.0.25 is in your path. Usually, you can find it in the winbind package of your distribution."

do : apt install libpam-winbind

---------------------------------------------- Lib Gnu TLS errors

Symptoms :

* 002b:err:winediag:gnutls_initialize failed to load libgnutls, no support for encryption

* 002b:err:winediag:schan_imp_init Failed to load libgnutls, secure connections will not be available.

* "No network connection"

Solution :

If you use a recent version of libgnutls (eg. libgnutls30 on ubuntu 16.04), create a copy, for a version 26 :

sudo ln -s /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/
sudo ln -s /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/
