What works

Installer runs just fine. After workarounds have been applied, Fusion 360 starts and the canvas seems to render properly. Samples design load and render.

What does not

  • Fusion won't start on mainline Wine, only staging
  • Fusion won't start with Wine's own DX11 implementation
  • Rendering is broken with DXVK (both DX11 and DX9); though there is a workaround, rendering is still glitchy
  • Can't load any design with nine, glitchy rendering
  • Some UI elements (the "browser" tree and the small toolbar at the bottom) render on all workspaces, or not at all if you enable the virtual desktop; on XWayland, they can't be interacted with

Setup is as follows:

  • You need wine-staging, the stable version did not work for me
  • Create a new prefix for Fusion
  • winetricks vcrun2017
  • In winecfg, add an override for vcruntime140_1 and leave it at "native, builtin"
  • Set Windows version to Windows 10
  • Install DXVK to your Fusion 360 prefix
  • Install Fusion 360 (the workarounds that were needed in the past are apparently no longer necessary, just run the installer)
  • After the installation completes, log in
  • Fusion should start but the canvas won't render
  • Click your name in the upper right corner, open preferences
  • Set the "Graphics driver" to DirectX 9
  • Quit Fusion
  • Uninstall DXVK from your profile
  • Start Fusion 360 again, it should render properly this time

DXVK can be made to work with this patch for bug 45277, in which case you don't need to switch to DX9.

What was not tested

I don't really know how to use Fusion yet so I haven't tested much.

I haven't tested running on X11, only XWayland.

Hardware tested

  • GPU: AMD
  • Driver: open source

Additional Comments

The application doesn't appear to exit cleanly, you need to kill the Wine server whenever you want to quit.

HowTo / Notes

Pre-requisites :

Wine 3.8 arch x64 (Windows version set in "Windows 7" NOT ANY OTHER)

Microsoft Visual runtimes 2017 (vcrun2017)

Install it with the last winetricks for example.

They have some issues with d3d11, you have two solutions :

* Disable lib d3d11 (go to winecfg > libs > add d3d11 > set "disabled")

In this case, you have little problems in main menu, and "gray" parts in some software area... But fusion runs as he can...

* Install dxvk implementation of d3d11 (need a wine version compiled with vulkan support).

winetricks vulkansdk

Download the last release of dlls :

Extract dlls (for example in : ~/.wine//3rdparty_dlls/dxvk/)

cd ~/.wine//3rdparty_dlls/dxvk/[x32/x64]
WINEPREFIX=~/.wine/ ./

(if you have multiple wine versions, add PATH with the good wine into)

To avoid "err:winediag:SECUR32_initNTLMSP ntlm_auth was not found or is outdated. Make sure that ntlm_auth >= 3.0.25 is in your path. Usually, you can find it in the winbind package of your distribution."

do : apt install libpam-winbind

---------------------------------------------- Lib Gnu TLS errors

Symptoms :

* 002b:err:winediag:gnutls_initialize failed to load libgnutls, no support for encryption

* 002b:err:winediag:schan_imp_init Failed to load libgnutls, secure connections will not be available.

* "No network connection"

Solution :

If you use a recent version of libgnutls (eg. libgnutls30 on ubuntu 16.04), create a copy, for a version 26 :

sudo ln -s /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/
sudo ln -s /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/
