HowTo / Notes

Common Issues
  • In game browser not loading/working
    • Install an up-to-date version of Wine; or
    • Use DXVK as the Direct3D implementation.
  • Errors involving Vulcan (vk) when using DXVK
    • Install both 64bit and 32bit Vulkan libraries.
    • Check that your graphics driver is up-to-date and supports the required Vulkan version.
    • Ensure you have all the necessary Vulkan packages:
      • libvulkan1 (for Vulkan 1.x)
      • libvulkan-dev
      • mesa-vulkan-drivers (if you are using CPU instead of GPU)
  • Low FPS
    • Your CPU may be struggling. Consider enabling esync by setting the WINEESYNC environment variable to 1.
    • Try DXVK.
  • Game opens then immediately closes
    • Try running the wargaming launcher as usual to update the game, then close it and run the WorldOfTanks.exe directly with wine.
    • Try DXVK.
Use DXVK

This game performs best with DXVK, which is a Vulkan-based Direct3D implementation to replace the default bundled with Wine.

Vulkan 1.1 support is required for the current version of DXVK. Older graphics drivers (e.g. nvidia-390) that only support Vulkan 1.0 will need to use DXVK 1.5.1 or earlier.

Many current operating systems already contain the necessary packages to run DXVK: no additional installations are required other than the most up-to-date drivers for your graphics card (tested with a fresh installation of Ubuntu 20.04).

Interface has keywords instead of translations and does not enter the garage
by IJustWantToPostSomething on Sunday March 27th 2022, 15:20
Same problem just like maniek reported it on 12.01.2021:

screenshot: p18.zdusercontent.com/attachment/2282464/s3bTwxf0mN23Vvbq3PuWhZRHx?token=eyJhbGciOiJkaXIiLCJlbmMiOiJBMTI4Q0JDLUhTMjU2In0..jk17gs0ANhbF40o32oeyAw._d6UC5ClN6bLGEKfySP2KigzB8zeTpgXLvTsvJ9fqoH0h4EK3RqdexW0CA-d9uRXZVQcuYG-54Ly7fM4HoyTvrsfSOpXCwSK6gvmWibCYE0u2kItt5KWtZFLNh20-4Vx5vni0GDeNmvVRUajweHv1EpOEoFsX4X6XSWRqPh_xqtriESMzOKXZdGvzc3r9Kp5xeRY35ToN17bY5gu9GCEgY7L_8GIp2A19XzqFOkTguwO45P166vmUS-AiVFJ_Ed3R_S0lM8RJG_Jm2iaSR91LTVcck4-ELKH7helk5kAdmk.BfJ4HgzJ1wsZbLZ_3l1cMw

This problem happens not always, like only ~ 25-75% but consistent till pc restart. After pc restart sometimes it's gone and I can play WOT normal without any problems.

Some informations, but don't know if it's relevant:
- My os version: 20.04.4 LTS (Focal Fossa)
- WOT game version: v.1.16.0.0 #1182
- I use DXVK, tried without it -> still happens
- WineVersion: wine-7.4 (Staging), but tried wine-devel and wine-stable -> still happens

It seems like, if this bug happens one time, it stays till some random event/setting happen or some time is past and then it just magically disappears.

Does anyone maybe know what triggers this strange bug or have any idea?

Hi

for me the solution to the problem was that I was running Wot from a windows installation - it seems to me that suddenly NTFS started to disturb wine. I copied the folder with the game on ext4 and the game is fine
RE: Interface has keywords instead of translations and does not enter the garage
by IJustWantToPostSomething on Thursday April 7th 2022, 12:30
Hi
jeah, that helped, thanks. It seems like the problem was just the NTFS filesystem. My game was on this filesystem. After the problem happen again (5 days it was ok, than happen again) I just copied the game on a drive with ext4 filesystem and the game worked immediately without any problems.

Maybe my partitions options are just wrong in the "/etc/fstab" file, idk:

RE: Interface has keywords instead of translations and does not enter the garage
by maniek on Sunday April 10th 2022, 8:56
It's nice to hear that I helped. This could be a problem with fstab, but I don't know either. I use wine version 7.2-stagging modified by lutris + dxvk = works great for me, but the problem is still with the wot in game browser. For example "Store" doesn't work and I get a blank page, but that's not a big problem for me
RE: Interface has keywords instead of translations and does not enter the garage
by IJustWantToPostSomething on Friday April 22nd 2022, 18:46
The problem with the game browser can be fixed. Just turn off ingame "web browser's hardware acceleration" option under graphics.
I found it here, www.protondb.com/app/1407200, on the some (~4.) comment.

WGC Update fails with older wine version
by Matthias Leitner on Monday September 28th 2020, 3:17
with one of the latest WGC patches, the Game Center does not load any update for World of Tanks with wine versions older than 5.16
the game itself works, as well as updates for other games with the WGC (like World of Warships)
also fresh installation fails as the WGC is unable to download anything

yet wine 5.16 shows problems with the login window for WoT (and some other games) and crashes if you want to manual select servers

my solution now is to have 2 different wine-prefix and run the game directly via worldoftanks.exe (wine 5.2) and use the WGC (with wine 5.16) only for update
RE: WGC Update fails with older wine version
by Chris Watts on Monday September 28th 2020, 16:37
I also concur that updates are no longer working with WGC, and to open it with a different wine-prefix is the way forward currently.
WoT + WGC Installation (EU) on Ubuntu 18 LTS
by cracket on Sunday September 13th 2020, 17:50
I had problems with black Wargaming installer until I have installed 32 bit libraries. I have dual-GPU Intel+NVidia where Intel does not support vulkan, but Nvidia does. I have set up GPU drivers via "Software & Updates" / Additional Drivers and chosen NVidia server metapackage, but that did not install 32 bit driver.
So I have switched to nvidia-driver-440 (proprietary). The missing package for WGC installer was libnvidia-gl-440:i386, and needed wine-staging 5.18

WGC is 32 bit application (as it's installed into Program Files (x86) so it needs 32 bit GPU driver for CEF (chrome). If unsure - try to run under your wine
win32 chromium ver 78.0.3904.87 - chromium window also gets black if no driver for i386 is installed, and starts fine if run as "wine chrome.exe --disable-gpu"
I have used winetricks to install vcrun2015,msxml6,mfc40,mfc42 and corefonts and then dxvk install to wineprefix
Both WGC and WoT can run within the same wine64 prefix.
Not working with WoT 1.9.1.1.
by Jontom Xire on Saturday June 20th 2020, 2:19
There was an update last night to 1.9.1.1. The game itself ran fine, as far as it gets, but after I log in it tells me I need to update. However when clicking on the "Update" button, nothing happened except that the game window disappeared.

I ran WGC directly, which then ran the WGC updater. After the WGC update completed, all windows disappeared. I ran WGC again to do the main game update but all I get is a black rectangle. If I run the game directly it runs fine except that it is still demanding an update.

Everything was working fine yesterday. I have not updated my system at all since then.

wine-5.10 (Staging)
NVidia GeForce GTX 1080, with driver version 440.44.
RE: Not working with WoT 1.9.1.1.
by Chris Watts on Sunday June 21st 2020, 5:40
I wasn't able to reproduce this. Can you run WorldOfTanks.exe directly?

The only reason that I've found I get a black rectangle is if I'm not using DXVK. Can you check that the DXVK libraries are activated for WGC still?

If you still can't get it to work, try uninstalling WGC (without removing WoT), and then reinstall and tell it to find your existing installation.

If that doesn't work, there may be corruption in WoT itself, which would require reinstalling.
RE: Not working with WoT 1.9.1.1.
by Jontom Xire on Sunday June 21st 2020, 6:35
As per my original post, I can run WorldOfTanks.exe directly, but it requires an update so throws me back to WGC.

When you say "Can you check that the DXVK libraries are activated for WGC still", I don't understand what you mean by this. Where do I check? Is there a settings file or something? Or do you mean in Winetricks?

I remember having a black screen issue before and vaguely remember that it was fixed by something to do with Vulkan or DXVK, but i don't remember what or how. I haven't made any changes to DXVK or Vulkan recently, although I did do a graphics driver update a few days before it stopped working. I forget how immediately before it actually was.

I am using Ubuntu 18.

Thanks for all your help on this.
RE: Not working with WoT 1.9.1.1.
by Jontom Xire on Sunday June 21st 2020, 6:37
Woah! I just ran WGC and it was fine!

I searched a few articles about checking for Vulkan 32 bit online and found a couple of people saying that running vulkaninfo solved their problem, so maybe that is what fixed it.

So all working now and thanks for your advice.
RE: Not working with WoT 1.9.1.1.
by Chris Watts on Sunday June 21st 2020, 6:42
Glad it's working!

For future reference, run `winecfg` and check the Libraries section to make sure that all the d3d and dxgi libraries are overridden by DXVK.
Results for ubuntu 18.04.
by Jontom Xire on Sunday February 16th 2020, 5:53
As Mirecc21 points out, DXVk solves all graphics issues. Make sure you have all 32 bit libraries as well as 64 installed, even for 64 bit systems.

However...it is not gold. The game keeps hanging, and always at the same few points:

1) Starting WGC. Very rarely you just get a medium size black rectangle.
2) Battle loading screen. You usually realise this when you notice some of your tanks are dead and you haven't even entered the battle yet.
3)Exiting battle. This takes forever. As does synchronising garage etc. WG really need to work on their networking. Very rarely you just get the progress indicator circling for ever.
4) Returning to garage. After "Exiting battle" finishes, returning to garage (or whatever it is called) hangs. Sometimes the background is blank, but sometimes (mostly I think if you saw the battle to the end) you can see the garage in the background with the results screen overlaid, but the game is hung.

If you are very unlucky you can get hang 2 and hang 4 for the same battle. I find that I can get an hour or two play before it goes wrong for the first time and after that it goes wrong every other battle or so.
RE: Results for ubuntu 18.04.
by Matthias Leitner on Sunday February 16th 2020, 6:28
1) WGC is a different program that needs different workarounds (WGC runs best with Win7, WoT with Win10, and you can install it on a different wineprefix and connect it to the WoT wineprefix), so it should not influence the WoT rating

If have never had 2-4 but I also don't play very often nowadays (more World of Warships) so I don't think I exceeded 2-3 hours of gameplay in a row

WoT: 64bit wineprefix, wine 5.1, Windows set to Win10, winetricks: vcrun2017 msxml6 dxvk (latest)
WGC: 64bit wineprefix, wine 5.1, Windows set to Win7, winetricks: vcrun2015, msxml6, mfc40, mfc42, dxvk (latest)
RE: Results for ubuntu 18.04.
by Jontom Xire on Monday February 17th 2020, 3:35
Thanks for the winetricks info. I will try it.

How do I install them both to separate wine prefixes and then connect them?
RE: Results for ubuntu 18.04.
by Matthias Leitner on Monday February 17th 2020, 7:16
if you run the WGC has the option "import installed games" in the all games tab (upper right corner), it will scan the wineprefix and than give you the option to search the folders on your own, than you can just point to your WoT wineprefix

after that, use the WGC for updates and always launch the game directly with the .exe to play

Try setting the graphics to low or laptop, that solved the problem for me.
UBUNTU 18.04, Wine & WGC

Bonjour,

Merci d'avance.

Version 1.5
by C.J.Wagenius on Thursday May 9th 2019, 9:36
I can't get version 1.5 to work. It installs fine and the launcher works, but crashes immediately when I try to run it. Any had success with it?

I use Fedora 30 & I've tried the official repo version of wine 4.7, WineHQ 4.0 & WineHQ 4.7 (corefonts, vcrun2015, DXVK 1.1.1)
RE: Version 1.5
by Paweł Frączek on Thursday May 9th 2019, 10:48
WoT forces to install new WG client "wgc_api.exe" which is located in run key.
Try: regedit -> HKEY_CURR_USER -> Software -> Microsoft -> Windows -> CurrVersion -> Run and delete "wgc_api.exe"
Or maybe just enough to rename a/m file (I did'nt try this solution).
Send please information is it helpful.
RE: Version 1.5
by C.J.Wagenius on Thursday May 9th 2019, 15:51
I forgot to mention that I've tried to run the game directly via WorldOfTanks.exe. It crashes the same way it does when starting it from the launcher.
Removing this value from the registry didn't help. Thanks for the suggestion though.
Not able to launch world of tanks since it got 1.X
by Petr Z on Sunday April 28th 2019, 15:06
Hi!

I'm not able to get past a crash right after entering user/pass.

Here is how it crashes:
ntrop\world_of_tanks\drive_c\Games\World_of_Tanks\WorldOfTanks.exe: ecc-random.c:75: _nettle_ecc_mod_random: Assertion `nbytes size * sizeof (mp_limb_t)' failed.
008f:err:winsock:interface_bind Failed to bind to interface, receiving broadcast packets will not work on socket 1ad8.
008f:err:winsock:interface_bind Failed to bind to interface, receiving broadcast packets will not work on socket 1ad8.

I've checked/recompiled the whole stack starting from gnutls/libnettle, all apps using this stack both x86/x86_64 are working fine, so the problem seems to be somewhere else.

All other games/apps work without any problem (server apps, Witcher3, other windows-based games), World of Tanks is the only one where this problem happens. I'll be happy for any thoughts about it.

I've posted more info in this bug report: bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=46668
Still no success to run WOT
by Radovan Gašparovič on Sunday February 17th 2019, 2:39
Hi Gents,
I've tried the following:
1. wine-staging 4.1 (win10, vcrun2015 msxml6 mfc40 mfc42 corefonts, winbind) - here I got the installer working until loading the game. It's freezing on loading the garage
2. to the above I've added DXVK and Vulkan libraries and I got message:
info: Game: WorldOfTanks.exe
info: DXVK: v0.96
warn: OpenVR: Failed to locate module
wine: Call from 0x7bc791e9 to unimplemented function vulkan-1.dll.vkGetInstanceProcAddr, aborting

I have NVidia driver 415.27

According to various instructions here it should work, but it's not.
Any advice from someone smarter?

Is there somebody who is running WOT 1.4 on Linux/Wine?

Are you using SD client or HD client?

The game center is somewhat messy to run in wine. You can still use the "old" world of tanks launcher as wargaming still provide it. You can find a link in the "Notes/How To" section on this page.

Linux Mint/Lutris window switching issue/performance
by Ryan on Monday January 7th 2019, 14:57
Game works great except 2 things.

1) If I alt+tab out to the desktop or whatever and then back into the game while its in a match I lose the ability to move or fire. I can look around and chat, but I lose movement. Have to close the game and relaunch to get it working again.

2) I recently went from a GTX 970 to GTX 1070 TI and I'm a little disappointed in the performance. I never actually ran WOT in Linux with the GTX 970 but the 1070 TI is worse in Linux than the 970 was in Windows. Wondering if this is just lack of driver optimizations in Linux? or is there potentially something I could do to get it to pick up? I have performance set in the nvidia-settings and am using 415.25.
RE: Linux Mint/Lutris window switching issue/performance
by Daniel on Monday January 7th 2019, 18:34
1 - Try turn OFF "Allow the window manager to decorate the windows" under the graphics tab in winecfg, if that doesn't help, try run it in windowed borderless also.
2 - I'm on a GTX 1060 on ubuntu and I can max out the settings and it will run at a steady 60 fps. I also got the same driver as you. I don't remember doing anything special and
I haven't seen anyone else complaining about performance here so you might have done something without realizing. Perhaps it is a problem with how Lutris installs or runs the game, in which case you should contact them.

Because you are using Lutris it might be more appropriate to ask on the Lutris forms if anyone has similar problems.
WGC keeps crashing - unable to install game
by John Wayne on Thursday December 6th 2018, 5:15
I followed different instructions and even tried a recent (unofficial) POL script, but can't get WoT to download using the 1.2 EU installer.

It installs Wargaming.net Game Center and downloads the game from there instead of the old launcher. And the wgc.exe keeps crashing before the download finishes:

[...]
0077:fixme:file:FindFirstFileExW flags not implemented 0x00000002
0077:fixme:file:FindFirstFileExW flags not implemented 0x00000002
0077:fixme:file:FindFirstFileExW flags not implemented 0x00000002
0073:fixme:dbghelp:elf_search_auxv can't find symbol in module

I tried different versions of Wine as well and downloading SD or HD client, changing download settings in WGC, etc. but nothing seems to keep the client from crashing during download. I even wrote a loop to keep starting WGC after it crashes, but it just doesn't make and progress.

Is there any way to use the old WoT Launcher or get the WGC to work properly?

That EU file was actually the Common Test version of the game.

Here's the correct one: wot.gcdn.co/eu/files/WoT_internet_install_eu.exe

does anyone have the older version of asia client?
RE: WGC keeps crashing - unable to install game

Hi joe sorry for the delay, you can get all the old launchers from the WG site.
For the asia launcher:
redirect.wargaming.net/WoT/launcher_install_asia
for any other area, change "asia" to your server code (eg "na" for north America).
DXVK 0.71 Works
by Kevin on Friday September 14th 2018, 3:12
Hi,

For those that are interested the DXVK 0.71 versions works great and I no-longer get the long pauses when the games first loads or in between battles, I generally only play random battles so no idea if all the other modes work as well.
Only issue to note when installing the 0.71 version I initially had graphics issues as 0.71 wasn't actually being used when the game started.
Turned out the 0.71 installer, via winetricks, adds additional wine library overides and I still had entries for dxgi builtin and DXD11 builtin which were causing issues, once I removed them the game worked great.

Sorry should have mentioned what I'm running the game with:

How to is missing
by Radovan Gašparovič on Saturday August 18th 2018, 12:06
Can someone write a current HowTo on complete installation which works in WOT 1.0?
Thanks! Highly appreciated.
RE: How to is missing
by thierrybo on Saturday October 6th 2018, 14:28
Unfortunately it depends on each distribution and on your hardware, and the computer knowledge of the person reading. If you are a linux newbie, you will not know how to do this if I say for example "add the backports repository to your sources.list", so the HowTo will be much much longer that it needs to be.

I posted step by step guide. Let me know if you have problems with it. First few commands were cut by the winhq (I do not know why), but you figure out what they are from the links I added.

Having to disable directx11
by Austin Moss on Wednesday August 8th 2018, 1:27
I am using an FX9590 and R9 280 with the Debian open source video drivers. Wine staging 3.13 and a fresh wine prefix. The game installs fine and I get to the login screen perfectly fine. HOWEVER, contrary to the above test results everything does not "just work." I haven't tried any other workarounds as I just wanted to get WoT going but without going in to winecfg and disabling d3d11, the game freezes when it starts rendering the garage (not the UI but the tanks and the background) and I can see in the terminal output there are tons of d3d11 format errors . If anyone has tried installing WoT lately and knows how to get around this, let's get this page updated! I will note that in the non DX11 mode the game does run pretty well if at a lesser quality.

The problem is with GCC8
by dantob on Tuesday July 31st 2018, 8:42
The problem is with GCC8 which is the default on arch linux, recompiling wine with with 'gcc49-multilib' from AUR (or try some other version, it'd be nice to figure out where the regression happened) fixes this for me. (gcc7 in community wont work because it cant create 32bit binaries)
RE: The problem is with GCC8
by Paweł Frączek on Tuesday July 31st 2018, 8:58
That's why I'm waiting for ver. 8.2 (it includes some patches i.e. '-native' for skylake and above).
RE: The problem is with GCC8
by Antoine Lebeault on Sunday August 12th 2018, 8:29
I've tested wine 3.13 compiled by gcc 8.2 on Archlinux 64bits and I've still the issue.
RE: The problem is with GCC8
by Antoine Lebeault on Sunday August 12th 2018, 12:20
Can you explain me how did you install it cause I can't compile it with gcc8.2 :

Thank.
RE: The problem is with GCC8
by Tom on Monday August 20th 2018, 20:36
I just went through this myself on Arch. Currently gcc49-multilib from AUR doesn't build properly either (hilarious), but someone suggested I build wine with gcc -O1 and it fixed this issue, even with Arch's current gcc (8.2.0).

Here is a link to how to set up wine to build with different compiler flags: wiki.winehq.org/Building_Wine#Compiler_Optimizations_.26_Call-Stacks
game works but when platoon, game freezes

I can play solo, but if I join a platoon, i freeze in the waiting screen, and the game basically crashes. I am using ubuntu 18.04 bionic beaver, on a desktop, with intel i7-7700, geforce 1080ti, 64 gb ram. wine-staging 3.13, and dxvk 0.63. Any help is greatly appreciated
RE: game works but when platoon, game freezes

A quick update to my earlier issue. Staging 3.13 works flawlessly now with dxvk 0.70, ie. no more freezing when platoon. Graphics in high mode is fantastic. Love Wine!!!
ps: I basically followed Daniel's guide for the test for Ubuntu18.0, 3.8 staging.

RE: Game not starting
by Paweł Frączek on Tuesday June 19th 2018, 12:28
FOA make sure u have installed dependencies:
'wine --check-libs' and 'wine64 --check-libs'

On Arch i have problems with 'wine-staging' from version 3.7 (I suppose its problem with gcc version using by maintainers), thats why I'm using 'wine-staging-pba' from AUR, compiled for my processor '-mtune=skylake' (vide: '/etc/makepkg.conf').
WOT runs with win64 enviroment.

If u have NVIDIA GPU best soulution is installing 396.24.02 driver from NVIDIA site. In this case ALT-TAB works.
RE: Game not starting
by Antoine Lebeault on Tuesday June 19th 2018, 15:29
I've checked my dependencies and they are all installed for both wine and wine64. I've also check that all libs installed on linux mint was installed on archlinux.
I've also install a real linux mint on my pc and the game work fine on a stock wine64 prefix, so i think the issue come from the wine-staging package. I will try tomorow to use the aur package.

Thanks for the tips with the nvidia driver.

I'll try but I don't think it's a compilation problem because I already had this problem in the past and I'd resolve it but I dont remember how, but I'm sure it wasn't a wine compilation issue.
I can also run other programs without any particular issues, and Trackmania 2 (a game using dx11) run just fine.

if you install it in different place, why not?

you need play with the configure options before build
RE: Game not starting

OK: I just tried build with gcc 8.x. works ok, but still need build with -O1 optimization.

seems filter '-fno-PIC' do nothing, because is not set by default in the /etc/makepkg.conf

Personally I use this ppa to keep my nvidia drivers up to date:
ppa:graphics-drivers/ppa (ppa.launchpad.net/graphics-drivers/ppa/ubuntu)
It's actively updated as new drivers come out, It has the "current" and "prime" drivers from nvidia (use prime with dxvk).
Screen flicker since 1.0 and Core engine
by CB on Sunday May 27th 2018, 18:39
I ran into the total crash Unhandled Exception error with the latest wine-staging-nine from our Arch repo, so I downgraded to wine 2.21 and the actual game window loads now. However, I'm getting severe screen flicker no matter which libraries I enable or disable when my Windows version is set to XP. When I set it to Windows 7 I get a black screen without loading window. I've tried disabling x_audio2-7 and D3D11 but it either crashes or gives me the unresponsive black screen. Here's a bit of the tail of when the window goes black:

The only thing I can think of now is that my card itself is the issue, since it's fairly old. It's a pre-GCN3 Radeon HD7750 (believe the code name is Cape Verde). Those GL version errors are what might be causing it. I had to do some workarounds on other games because of OpenGL version support, but like I said, this game always ran perfectly fine until 1.0.

Log for cef_browser_process
by Fredrik Blomqvist on Monday April 2nd 2018, 15:38
I decided to investigate the fact that I can't get the in-game browser to work. Looks like Gecko is installed after all (judging by the existence of folder "2.47/wine_gecko" in drive_c/windows/syswow64/gecko), so I suppose that isn't the reason why the browser crashes.
I posted the log of the cef_browser_process here: pastebin.com/UaC8VZpf

Couldn't decrypt it but if anyone can see/knows what could be wrong please do let me know!
RE: Log for cef_browser_process
by ZenAnonX on Tuesday April 3rd 2018, 1:36
I was able to reproduce your bug,

pastebin.com/0EpE3Say

This "wine: Unhandled exception 0x80000003 in thread 84 at address 0x10090bc9 (thread 0084), starting debugger.." might be the source of your problem.
Using wine-staging fixes it and cef_browser_process starts loading up.

pastebin.com/8RXPYuis

I am not totally sure but error might lie in either ole or win module. Anyways, use wine-staging for now to run game without problems.

P.S. Don't install xact in staging to make xaudio work, its not needed.
RE: Log for cef_browser_process
by Fredrik Blomqvist on Tuesday April 3rd 2018, 18:00
I can confirm using wine-staging worked. Tried with wine-staging 3.5 and it worked great. This should be mentioned in the test report.

by Jan Novak on Sunday April 1st 2018, 15:20
For several days I make lot of tests with WOT and Vulkan + dxvk, wine64 and finnally wine32.

Result:
wine64 (for me) does not work with Vulkan + DXVK + WOT 1.0

Who has it in his logs (I have too):
0081: err: module: import_dll The dxgi.dll library (which L: C: \\ windows \\ system32 \\ wbemprox.dll needs) was not found
0081: Error: ole: COMPOBJ_DllList_Add could not load DLL in process L "C: \\ windows \\ system32 \\ wbemprox.dll"

0081: Error: dxdiag: gathering information wWinMain DxDiag Failed
It's really a problem, dxgi used to load. But for Running Vulkan with dxvk is important runnig dxgi.dll + d3d11.dll

I think this is the incompatible version of dxgi.dll used with 64-bit wine.

In this setting (wine64), I have too a 15-second delay in the garage, and many trees and bushes are black (see in my yesterday post with screenshots).

wine32 (for me) is the right way
used version:
wine32 3.5 devel, installed via apt install (wiki.winehq.org/Ubuntu)
libvulkan1 1.1.70, installed via apt install
Latest binary build dxvk: haagch.frickel.club/files/dxvk/latest/32/bin/
vulkanSDK for Windows vulkan.lunarg.com/sdk/home#sdk/downloadConfirm/1.1.70.1/windows/VulkanSDK-1.1.70.1-Installer.exe (vulkan.lunarg.com/sdk/home #windows) + insert the json file + registry settings (see readme on github.com/roderickc/wine-vulkan).

Settings in winecfg: library
d3d11 (native) - it is important, do not set other choice. Presseted via setup_dxvk.sh
dxgi (native) - it's important, do not set other choice. Presseted via setup_dxvk.sh

Im not using the emulated desktop, Im using window borderless settings from game. For fully normal ALT + TAB work and not losing full screen focus, I use the registry settings: HCU-> Software-> Wine, a new key named "X11 Driver" (without quotation marks). String values: Managed: Y, UseTakeFocus: N

Entering the Strongholds in main menu WOT is still not working, I think the problem here is:
006e: err: winsock: interface_bind Failed to bind to the interface, receiving packets will not work on socket 16a4.

before start the wine I set the variable: DXVK_HUD = "1"

Run wine worldoftanks.exe to produce log on stdout:
pastebin.com/sqtvgNW0
Important parts are the words dxgi and vulkan in the log. This shows works vulkan + dxgi. When I run the game (because I set DXVK_HUD = 1), I see HUD from DXVK (Graphics Card + Driver Version, Vulkan Version, FPS) and in pwd directory from where I run wine I see two logs:
WorldOfTanks_d3d11.log
WorldOfTanks_dxgi.log
Now I have the functionaly DirectX 11, because black trees and bushes are gone out.

I hope this help to someone.
RE:
by ZenAnonX on Sunday April 1st 2018, 23:36
It shouldn't cause problems such as those while using 64 bit prefix, i m running it fine using the same. From pics it looks like trees are not getting properly rendered.
Please post your,
Mesa Version
LLVM Version
Distro
Graphics Card Vendor and Graphics Driver you are using.

Also try running game using wine-staging in a clean wineprefix, its same procedure of install (run dxvk_setup for relevant architecture, copy winevulkan.json to C:\Windows, run Vulkan-SDK installer, set dxvk registries)
RE: wine64 problems
by Daniel on Monday May 21st 2018, 3:59
I think your problem for 64 bit is; you need to run BOTH scripts (32 bit and 64 bit) for DXVK.

WoT Crashing becasue of cef_browser_process.exe
by Kevin on Friday March 30th 2018, 5:25
Hi,

Got a new issue in that just after logging in and while the garage is loading I get a "Program Error" pop-up regards "cef_browser_process.exe" and then the game crashes and I cant get in.

No idea how to get round this one, nothing on the client side has changed so really not very happy!!!

Anybody any ideas on how to resolve this issue?
RE: WoT Crashing becasue of cef_browser_process.exe
by Daniel on Monday May 21st 2018, 4:06
I had a similar problem on one of my previous installs, only I could just open up the game again. Perhaps you just can't open a fullscreen window, in that case, try click the arrow on the WoT launcher and select "Launch the game with reset graphic settings".
WoT isn't gold yet...
by Fredrik Blomqvist on Tuesday March 27th 2018, 16:23
I'm not sure why people keep posting gold rest reports when clearly everything does not work in the game. So far no one has posted a workaround for making the browser work, and there have been mentions of the emblems/decals not working (and no workarounds). None of the gold reports mention that these areas were tested (the browser is used a little here and there, e.g. Strongholds) even though they are quite obvious. Just thought I'd put it out there so that people can get a little educated and to prevent people from getting their hopes up before installing the game and testing it themselves.
RE: WoT isn't gold yet...
by ZenAnonX on Wednesday March 28th 2018, 8:43
Browser works out of box here, tested in both strongholds and bulletins screens. You need to have gecko installed, it should come by default as a dependency for wine, if not get it here,

wiki.winehq.org/Gecko

Also make sure you are running game from a clean wineprefix with just dxvk installed.
1.0 worked out of the box for me with just dxvk unlike older versions where xact was a neccessity if you are running in dx11 mode, so its a gold for me ;)
RE: WoT isn't gold yet...
by Fredrik Blomqvist on Wednesday March 28th 2018, 9:50
I am running WoT out of a clean wineprefix, however, Gecko did not get installed automatically for me. I guess I'll give it another go later and see if I can install it manually. Nonetheless, considering that it didn't get automatically installed for me nor for others here it should probably at least have been mentioned in the test reports (though I suppose you wouldn't have known since you didn't deal with it yourself).
RE: WoT isn't gold yet...
by Matthias Leitner on Wednesday March 28th 2018, 10:06
Stronghold loading forever until you are invited is a game related bug and happens also on windows
and I checked, gecko was installed, not sure if by default or added by somewhere during playing around with the settings

Thats really weird, takes about 1 minute to load on mine but loads fine. Could this issue be graphics card related? I am using amd btw with open source drivers. Try using wine-staging too, it might not have that problem.

Also these are my wineprefix settings,

WINEARCH=win64
Windows Version: Windows 10
Allow windows manager to decorate windows: False
Allow window manager to control windows: False
Libraries: d3d11(native),dxgi(native) - Both set by dxvk setup.

Hope that helps.
Completely maxed out graphics @ 1080p w/ DX11 + dxvk
by Fredrik Blomqvist on Sunday March 25th 2018, 18:24
Followed Justin's advice and tried using dxvk (v0.40), and that was the key to everything. However, I did not have to disable any window decorations (not sure how anyway) nor install vcrun2015.
I am getting a solid 50+ fps with every single setting maxed out/on ultra (shadows are grayed out on off for some reason, but whatever), including tesselation enabled via the preferences.xml file (located in Application Data in your WoT Wine prefix, search for it).
Specs:
i7 7700HQ
GTX 1060
16 GB RAM
2560x1080p

1. Download the latest dxvk binaries from the GitHub Releases page (github.com/doitsujin/dxvk/releases)
2. Follow the how-to-use instructions in the GitHub Readme (github.com/doitsujin/dxvk#how-to-use)
2. a. Remember to run the setup script with the right Wine prefix (e.g. the one you run WoT with)
3. Done, just start WoT as normal and start maxing out the graphics settings

These are the libraries I have overrides for:

Note that d3d11 and dxgi were added by the dxvk setup script. All the other ones were added by me. Not sure if they are all required so feel free to test.

Forgot to mention one thing: loading the garage freezes the game for like 10-20 seconds (after login/after battle) but it always seems to recover and continue on normally.

Hi,

Followed the example from Justin and yourself and I can confirm the same status, I can run most things in ultra and still get around 50-75fps, I also get the same 20-30s hang when loading the garage.

Also moved the game from HDD to SDD as suggested in other posts.

GeForce GTX 980M
Nvidia-384.111
Wine x64 3.4

Happy with how it's going and ca live with the delayed loading time.

I've got a similar setup:
- wine64 bit
- dxvk

I can max out the graphics but the shadows and yes, it looks great BUT;
- The shadows quality is stuck at 0 which hints at something not working quite right.
- It might just be me, but it still appears just slightly better graphically on windows.

My wine log is giving me errors about it being unable to find the "dxgi.dll" library. I suspect this may be where my problems are and even after registering the library again and trying it in different places, I still get the same error.
I would be interested to hear if your logs show similar or if this is a separate problem for my setup.

I'm seeing similar errors against the system32 dlls in my config so you are not alone but Im not sure what if any issue these relate to.

Encountering same errors but I really doubt its related to either dxgi.dll or wbemproxy.dll. Same problems existed in 0.9.x.x too while using dxvk. Tessellation is implemented but not functional atm, nier automata suffers from same problem.

github.com/doitsujin/dxvk/wiki

Shadows could be using some unimplemented graphics call too. I will check against a fresh build of master and post test results as soon as mesa 18 gets released.
RE: Completely maxed out graphics @ 1080p w/ DX11 + dxvk
by Fredrik Blomqvist on Tuesday March 27th 2018, 16:19
You must be wrong regarding tesselation. The page you're referring to says that it's partially implemented. Furthermore, it clearly works (to some extent) in WoT if you turn it on. At least for me. The environment looks 100 times better with it on, just look at the mountains and rocks, they are no longer flat.
RE: Completely maxed out graphics @ 1080p w/ DX11 + dxvk
by ZenAnonX on Wednesday March 28th 2018, 9:41
Yes, you will notice difference in graphics by turning on tesselation through preferences.xml, i do too, but i doubt we will be able to turn it off/on using ingame gui unless its fully implemented in dxvk. It might not even be full scale tessellation we are seeing right now.

Implementation of shadows trouble me more though as dxvk is able to easily handle witcher 3 multilayered shadows but not here. The issue could both be game sided or vulkan sided.
RE: Completely maxed out graphics @ 1080p w/ DX11 + dxvk
by Fredrik Blomqvist on Wednesday March 28th 2018, 9:47
Yeah I'm sure the tesselation will improve once he's fully implemented it. I was gonna try to manually enable better shadows as well but judging by your commentary that wouldn't work? Probably related to dxvk as well.
RE: Completely maxed out graphics @ 1080p w/ DX11 + dxvk
by ZenAnonX on Wednesday March 28th 2018, 13:51
Setting SHADOWS_QUALITY to 0 under preferences.xml should do that, but how well that works ingame, i have no idea. Game does look a bit flat without shadows :/. Problem could also be vulkan sided thats why i am hopeful of mesa 18 release.

by Jan Novak on Friday March 30th 2018, 16:22
Does it works for somebody this setting: DXVK_HUD=1 ? If I use Wine 3.4 from GIT (patched for Vulkan), then HUD (runned in WOT) doesnt show and dont produce any logs. If I run in same WINEPREFIX another Game then HUD shows me and produce this logs: Win64-Shipping_dxgi.log + Win64-Shipping_d3d11.log.

In this readme: github.com/doitsujin/dxvk#how-to-use author decribe "Verify that your application uses DXVK instead of wined3d by checking for the presence of the log files d3d11.log and dxgi.log in the application's directory, or by enabling the HUD (see notes below)." BUT any of both results were not working (logs or HUD).
Another indice: If I run wot in wine from command line, then all output are in console in stdout, nowhere in this output is shown "vulkan" word.
If I run cube.exe, (it works) from Vulkan SDK, then word "vulkan" shows in console log:

0009:fixme:vulkan:wine_vkGetInstanceProcAddr Unsupported device or instance function: "vkGetPhysicalDeviceDisplayPropertiesKHR".
0009:fixme:vulkan:wine_vkGetInstanceProcAddr Unsupported device or instance function: "vkGetPhysicalDeviceDisplayPlanePropertiesKHR".
etc...

Is not it weird?

Another indice: every run WorldOfTanks.exe produce dxdiag.log with this content:

But extended settings of graphics works and my setting in winecfg is windows10.

Can somebody confirm that WOT is working with vulkan ? (post log, screenshot where shown HUD from DXVK) ?

With this suspicion (that wot not runned in vulkan) WOT works, but the far trees, bushes are not properly plotted. They are black. If I use maximal zoom, then they looks like a minecraft objects. Look here: imgur.com/a/W16HH

If I drive closer, they changes from black to normal colours.

My card is Nvidia 1050Ti, driver 390.48,
tested version wine:
- 3.4 from GIT with vulkan patch
- 3.5 from GIT last development version

Thanks for sharing your dxvk findings, tried with the new 0.40 release today and was able to max out the game on my GTX 1060 (same driver as you). Looks soooo much better now!
Enable better graphics

To enable better graphics options in wot, change the "Windows XP" setting in "Windows Version" for "Windows 2008".
Still testing
by Matthias Leitner on Thursday March 22nd 2018, 15:06
Not a fresh installation, I just updated the game and changed wine version to 3.3
Mint17 64bit
i5 6600k
GTX660 (nvidia 390)

64bit installation, win7
native, builtin: gdiplus, d3dcompiler 43, d3dx11_42 & 43, atl120, msvcp120, msvcr120, vcom12, msvcp140, msvcr140
disabled: xaudio2_7 (because of sound cracking)
GLSL: disabled, DDR: opengl, SDO: enabled

1.0 resets the graphic setting, so you have to activate advanced graphic in the in-game setting (the automatic settings won't to this)
I play on custom settings, texture quality, gras etc on ultra, additional effects are disabled (as they cause an fps drop and they are a kind distraction)

I cannot use the new graphic settings for tessellation (said to run only in full directx11 support) and for the rest I am still testing which setting I can run on maximum or ultra without decreasing performance

with standard graphics I have constant 120+ fps, advanced settings for now are somewhere between 70 and 120
therefore the game looks a lot better than before with the same framerate

RE: Still testing

Thanks for sharing your findings! Managed to get DX11 running. However, I did not have a few of those libraries you listed (some of the newer versions for msvcp/msvcr and vcom12 etc) so just skipped them. Seems to run fine anyway.
If you have time to share a screenshot of the exact settings you are using in WoT that would be much appreciated. Wasn't able to load the battle (got stuck on the loading screen, but you could hear the battle starting) when I tried High settings. Medium seems to be fine. Ultra textures seem to work fine too, but not too sure about everything else. I figured it would be interesting to test the exact same settings as you since I am running a more powerful GPU (GTX 1060 @ nvidia-390) and CPU, so I should be able to get same or better framerates.
RE: Still testing
by Matthias Leitner on Friday March 23rd 2018, 7:35
I guess most of the libraries are not needed any more but as I just update the game I am a bit lazy in removing outdated stuff.

This are my current settings:
i.imgur.com/TpdPOa6.jpg

they only one that gave me problems so far was lightning quality, but I am not sure if it is a problem by it's own or in combination with other settings
RE: Still testing
by Kevin on Friday March 23rd 2018, 10:32
Hi,

I followed your example and apart from the initial loading of WoT, tends to blink in and out of the game until after the login page, things seem to be a bit more stable.
Some slight changes to what you have which Ive listed below.

64bit with Windows 10
native, builtin: atl120, d3dcompiler_43, d3dx11_42, d3dx11_43, gdiplus, mscvp140, msvcr120, vcomp140
disabled: d3d11, xaudio2_7

Games playable with advanced settings on medium graphics option.

Setting high on graphics in game results in the game loading page but I get no further than that.

Regards

Are you using an SSD or HDD for the game?
and because I read somewhere else, Wayland or X?
RE: Still testing
by Kevin on Monday March 26th 2018, 5:06
Hi,

Moved from HDD to SDD as per best practices, had been running on HDD for a long time but wasnt aware there was an impact on the game.

Cheers
RE: Still testing
by Matthias Leitner on Friday March 23rd 2018, 11:56
Some further testing:
Setting Post Processing to Maximum or Ultra results in black ground textures and only a restart (after change settings back to high) get them back to normal

The difference between lightning quality for High and Ultra is about 10-20 fps, while I don't see a huge improvement in game between Low and Ultra
There is no difference between Shadow setting, neither in fps nor how it looks in game

Setting the amount of Gras to Ultra improves the look of the game more than setting any texture quality to Ultra
RE: Still testing
by Daniel on Monday March 26th 2018, 6:09
Please correct me if I am wrong, but disabling GLSL disables shaders (or maybe just advanced ones?) as GLSL is part of openGL which I believe is sort of necessary for advanced shaders.
RE: Still testing
by Matthias Leitner on Monday March 26th 2018, 10:34
My information may be outdated, but yes disabling GLSL reduces shaders but increase performance of direct3d on Nvidia cards
A few notes re WoT 1.0
by Glenn on Thursday March 22nd 2018, 11:30
I didn't try the Community Test (CT) server for 1.0, so just comparing to my experience w/ WoT 0.9.xx.

I find that WoT looks better and runs with higher fps (60-90) than with 0.9.22

I'm using Wine-Staging 3.4. d3d11 and xaudio2_7 are not disabled unlike as they were noted in the review above. Windows version is Windows XP. I tried setting Wine to Windows 7, but that did not work. Haven't tested any other versions.

A bit about my hardware and OS:

System: Kernel: 4.14.27-1-MANJARO x86_64 bits: 64 Desktop: LXDE Distro: Manjaro Linux
Machine: Device: desktop System: Hewlett-Packard product: HP Compaq 8100 Elite CMT PC 8G ram
CPU: Dual core Intel Core i5 650 (-MT-MCP-) cache: 4096 KB clock speed: 3333 MHz
Graphics: Card: NVIDIA GM107 [GeForce GTX 750 Ti] driver: nvidia 390.42

I've noticed in the WoT Graphics Settings it's stated that "the HD client will not run on XP or earlier versions of Windows". So, WoT is relegated to Low or Minimum in-game graphics settings.

When exiting the game, WoT doesn't shut down completely. I've had to go into a task manager (I've used top) and kill the client to get it shut down. If you exit the game without doing this and then try to relaunch WoT you get an error message stating that it's already running.
RE: A few notes re WoT 1.0
by Fredrik Blomqvist on Thursday March 22nd 2018, 22:13
The reason why you don't have to disable those libraries is because they don't exist (I believe) on Windows XP. If you set Wine to Windows XP you automatically force WoT to run in DX9 and to use a different audio library, which is why it works out of box for you. If you switch to Windows 8 you need to either disable those libraries, or follow some of the other instructions on here (if you wanna enable DX11). Unless you switch to Windows 7 you cannot go above Minimum graphics.
