Old test results
The test results you have selected are very old and may not represent the current state of Wine.
Selected Test Results

What works

  • Web activation
  • basic features (brush)
  • opening/saving files
  • use with tablet (may need adjustment in ZBrush preference menu)
  • start as fast as windows (not case of previous version) :-)

What does not

  • Some preview failed, like examples in DemoProject folder
  • ALT key is a shortcut under some desktop environment (Cinnamon, Plasma KDE, ...) to move windows. For a better experience, this behavior should be disable in your settings.
  • Installation failed if msvcrt override is set to native, builtin (crash with unimplemented function msvcrt.dll._strtoi64). It should be set to builtin, native

Workarounds

You need to install:

winetricks corefonts mfc42 vcrun6 vcrun2008 vcrun2010 vcrun2013 comctl3

and set your Wineprefix to Windows 10 compatibility:

winetricks win10

Now, run:

winecfg

, on your Wineprefix.

On the Libraries tab, you must have these overrides set :

  • atl120 (native, builtin)
  • comctl32 (builtin, native)
  • mfc42 (native)
  • mfc42u (native)
  • msvcp120 (native, builtin)
  • msvcr100 (native, builtin)
  • msvcr120 (native, builtin)
  • msvcr90 (native, builtin)
  • vcomp120 (native, builtin)
  • api-ms-win-downlevel-normaliz-l1-1-0 (native, builtin)
  • api-ms-win-downlevel-shlwapi-l1-1-0 (native, builtin)
  • api-ms-win-downlevel-user32-l1-1-0 (native, builtin)
  • gdiplus (native, builtin)
  • msvcrt (builtin, native)
  • normaliz (native, builtin)
  • ole32 (native, builtin)
  • rpcrt4 (native, builtin)
  • shlwapi (native, builtin)
  • vcomp90(native, builtin)

Now, you can run ZBrush setup executable. It may complain about vcrun version which are already installed, just ignore it.

ZBrush should start without issue.

What was not tested

Advanced features (Live Boolean, ...)

Hardware tested

Graphics:

  • GPU: Nvidia
  • Driver: proprietary

Additional Comments

Since version 4R8 of ZBrush, Pixologic stop supporting 32 bit version so there is no 32 bit version of ZBrush 2018. You need 64-bit (SysWow64) Wine and a 64 bit Wineprefix.

You should configure your Wineprefix before installing ZBrush.

Hello.
The z run really fine. But my times in zremesh for example is lower to 20% with respect to windows times.
How do I solve it?
Apparently the cores are charging 15% of their potential!
Thanks

App works pretty well with tablet pressure sensitivity and all other tested features seeming fine. The main issue is that it doesn't seem to recognize my high DPI monitor, so the entire UI is tiny. Other apps recognize DPI just fine, so it seems like Zbrush must be doing some funny business.
Anyone help me solve this

Just switch your UI and then switch back. This should restore pressure sensitivity. I only lose it occassionally
comctl3
by Philip Man on Sunday June 24th 2018, 3:04
the 'comctl3' should be 'comctl32'
The requirement list is actually a lot shorter

All I had to add to my previous wineprefix was vcrun2010

You can install vcrun2010 redistributable first, then kill the install once it hangs at the very end as Zbrush tries to install it again. ZBrush will still run.

I reuse my ZBrush 4R8 prefix (with Wine 3.3), I have to set msvcrt to builtin, native to run installer.
It worked fine, the only difference with Windows was vcrun2008 and vcrun2010 installer which were complaining because they were already installed.
