What works

Installation

Installer has to run in quiet mode or it will not work.

When run in quiet mode it will show some errors but still install.

Running

Required winetricks xact plus setting xaudio2_7 and xaudio to "native" in winecfg (unsure if all these are required).

All parts of the game works as far as I can tell. Playing and deck editing works.

What does not

Graphics were very slow and choppy, low fps. I have an intel gpu but a very new one (2018). My 2011 Windows laptop (amd gpu) runs in without problems.

MTGALauncher.exe does not work, complains about mono not being installed. I didn't try to install it. Use MTGA.exe instead.

Workarounds

Installer doesn't work unless /q is given.

wine MTGAInstaller.exe /q

What was not tested

Draft game mode.

Quick construct game mode.

Opening a new pack.

Hardware tested

Graphics:

  • GPU: Intel
  • Driver: unknown

Thank you. I got it to work as well.

One thing though, what do you do when they have updates?
I can't update using Mtgalauncher.exe, and when that happens I have to uninstall and install (i.e. download) it again.

Do you have any idea of how to get Mtgalauncher to work?

Using the same installer doesn't work.
You have to download the newest available installer on their website or you won't be able to play.
Graphical glitches
by Dan (Strit) Johansen on Thursday July 19th 2018, 13:10
I followed the guide on the Arch test and I got it running.

I did however have some "getThreadContext failed" errors when downloading game files.
Restarting the updater each time made it proceed.

But I have many graphical glitches when playing. Like WoW had in the "old" days when running in OpenGL mode.

Anyone know a fix for that?

Hi! Trying to run MTGA on Ubuntu 18.04 and Wine 3.9.
You said "Installation was unreadable" but which exe did you run to install it?
