What works

Almost everything. See below.

What does not

Native FL Studio built-in bridging doesn't work (32<=>64, either way). The plugin hangs, apparently forever. FL Studio keeps running fine if I just kill the bridge process (only the plugin dies). So if I run FL.exe, I can only run 32-bit plugins, and if I run FL64.exe, I can only run 64-bit plugins. All of this refers to the built-in bridge provided by FL Studio, not other Linux bridging efforts such as linvst or airwave. Those do not work at all since FL Studio runs as a Windows application that has no knowledge of .so vst files. Apart from the cross-platform built-in bridging, FL Studio loads native .dll files as they are and seem to give a much better sucess rate than linvst/airwave on native Linux DAWs. The (native Windows) jBridge alternative seems to work with GUI issues, but I didn't test it much.

Workarounds

Wine ASIO only worked with the 64-bit version (FL64.exe) until I registered the 32-bit version: $ bash env WINEPREFIX=/home/user/.wine32; regsvr32 wineasio.dll

What was not tested

A few of the extra bundled plugins. There are so many!

  • GPU: Intel
  • Driver: open source

Additional Comments

Apart from bridging, everything runs smoothly. Wine ASIO (register with regsvr32 wineasio.dll) strongly recommended. FL Studio loads native .dll files as they are and seem to give a much better sucess rate than linvst/airwave on native Linux DAWs. The (native Windows) jBridge alternative seems to work with GUI issues, but I didn't test it much.
