What works

• Installation.
• Playing the game.
• Sounds.
• Music.
• Logo-animations.
• In-game movies.

What does not

• Noisy effect seen (lines, dots). (Looks somewhat like bug #38760 or bug #40518).
• Switching workspaces when game is run in Wine's full-screen mode, caused it to get paused and auto-minimized (bug #37937). It would get activated when switched to, but the game would still be "paused".
• Although enabling the Next Generation content causes the noisy effect to disappear, it causes the performance to greatly reduce, as can be seen by the extremely slow movements.
• It is not possible to change the setting of Fullscreen Anti-Aliasing: The option is simply greyed out. (Bug #34625?). 

Workarounds

• To get rid of the noisy effect, I had to set the environment variable `MESA_EXTENSION_MAX_YEAR=2003'. However, doing so makes it impossible to enable the Next Generation content. Also, the "water effect" causes everything to appear wavy (bug #7775), hence, has to be disabled.
• To get rid of problems in Wine's full-screen mode, I had to run the game in virtual-desktop mode.

Combining the above workarounds, I ran the game using the following command in the CLI:

$ MESA_EXTENSION_MAX_YEAR=2003 wine explorer /desktop=,800x600 trl.exe
