The Win32 version of Mercury (or Mercury/32 as it is known) runs on Windows 95, 98, NT4, 2000 or XP workstations. It can provide mail services to a single computer or a local area network. It has special support for the Novell NetWare environment - it integrates with a NetWare LAN in exactly the same manner as the NLM version of Mercury (in actual fact, Mercury/32 is more NetWare-aware than its NLM-based counterpart!) The Windows environment is in many ways richer than the NLM programming environment and has a wider range of development tools. This has given us the opportunity to add considerable power and flexibility to the Win32 version of Mercury, yet (by taking advantage of the graphical user interface) make the program attractive and easy to manage at the same time. Unlike the NLM version of Mercury, which requires a "smart host" to handle the delivery of outgoing mail, Mercury/32 supports complete end-to-end delivery of Internet mail. For sites wishing to use Mercury/32 behind a firewall, the relaying delivery model used by the NLM version of Mercury is also available as a selectable module in Mercury/32; this choice of delivery method makes Mercury/32 one of the most flexible mail server options available. Mercury/32 is a very rich and powerful product - the list below is only a partial view of the full feature set.
The program installs and runs fine, I can check and uncheck any options without getting any errors.
What does not
Sending or receiving mail simply does not work, though it might my faulty configuration.
What was not tested
I gave it a garbage rating, though it starts and appears to be working fully, sending or receiving mail (which is the primary function of the application) does not work.
