Playing the game, most of the time.
What does not
Hardware acceleration. Occasional freeze, related to WINE_ALSA. Copy protection didnt work for me, so I had to use a no-cd exe.
What was not tested
Casting a Voodoo hex on the game
Had to config the GameSettings.cfg to not use Fullscreen, ie. setting it to 0. Failing to do so would set the X resolution to 640*480, and the game wouldnt display any gui. Running the game with LandscapeHardware=1 does actually work for me in the sence that it doesnt crash. However, I cant use hardware acceleration once entering the game. I also set the GameSettings.cfg to Read-Only, as it would otherwise turn Fullscreen back on, causing X to go bonkers the next time it was run.

The game runs slowly
Try switching to 16 bit colour depth. Use your distribution's program for changing display/graphics settings, or change DefaultDepth in /etc/X11/xorg.conf
