Tracer is a 3D strategy game developed by 7th Level and released on June 30th, 1996 for Windows 95. The premise is that you are one of four hackers that is to gain access to the Metropol Center database and delete some personnel files. Upon entering the system it turns out it is a trap and you now have a "Type 8 lethal Tracer Virus on your tail".
To navigate the ICE grid you are to place color coded pads which can only be placed if the adjacent side has a matching color. These are quickly
eaten by the Tracer Virus so you need to do a lot of planning ahead and be quick. You can hold up to ten color pads at a time so your best bet is to empty your inventory while planning a path both forwards and back to a reload site where you can pick up an additional ten color pads.
There are one of three goals depending on the level. One goal is to reach the Level Access Port (exit), the other is to collect keys and place them
in their respective ports, and the third is to collect code key pads and place them adjacent to each other.
The game comes with a level editor. Multiplayer was not shipped with this version but one can... could get the multiplayer addon for free by visit their website.
What does not
Without this INI file the game will complain that it could not find its resources and asks you to reinstall the game. One plus is that it accepts relative paths in the [TracerDirectories] so with that it becomes a portable game.
