Workarounds

Setup

I installed wine-staging 3.21 with DXVK 0.93. In addition, I added

corefonts, xact

In winecfg, I set xaudio2_7 to native, builtin and winegstreamer to disabled.

Nvidia is the beta driver: 396.54.09

Reddish glow

If you experience a reddish glow of all things in game, there is a workaround, but I didnt figure out yet, what the exact reason for the glow is:

Solution 1 (disables a lot of things):

Go to your wineprefix in the folder: users/USERNAME/My Documents/My Games/Fallout76 there delete both ini files, Fallout76.ini and Fallout76Prefs.ini

Now add a Fallout76Custom.ini
Then put this in it:

[ScreenSplatter]

bBloodSplatterEnabled = 0

[Grass]

iMinGrassSize = 80

bAllowCreateGrass = 0

[ImageSpace]

bDoRadialBlur = 0

[Weather]

bPrecipitation = 0

bFogEnabled = 0

bRainOcclusion = 0

bWetnessOcclusion = 0

[Enlighten]

bEnableEnlighten = 0

-----------

Solution 2 (may be better, if working):

Another idea is to delete the two ini files and then go to the main game folder where the Fallout76.exe is located and change in the Fallout76.ini bEnableEnlighten=0 , bFogEnabled=0 , if ingame graphics are normal then, you are good.

NoRegionPing Error

I wasnt able to login for some time, always got this error. What fixed it for me was manually downloading:

Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2015

and launch it with wine to install it in the prefix. After that the error was gone forever.

What was not tested

- extended playtime, so far I can tell 2 hours of playing on 1080p, ultra settings and 60 fps my monitors max worked like on windows. All loading times are decreased on Linux. DXVK works like a charm

Hardware tested

Graphics:

  • GPU: Nvidia
  • Driver: proprietary

Additional Comments

The Bethesda Launcher does not work. You get it to start and there is a fix on WineHQ to be able to log in, but the game download wont work. Best is to run the Bethesda Launcher in a Windows VM or dualboot and then just use the games/Fallout76 folder in the launcher with wine. If you keep that setup, you can update the game in windows. If an update is availiable, you wont be able to login without it.

Buying stuff from the Atom Store is not possible for me so far, all items have the value zero and i can buy them. And if I try to make an ingame picture the game crashes. But those are features you dont really need any other way.

Regarding the Reddish Glow

To work around it, you only have to set bEnableEnlighten=0 in the Fallout76.ini in the main game folder, that's it!
