Install Instructions for Ubuntu Server 18.04.1 using Windows

Notes. These instructions assume you are using a Windows computer and a remote Ubuntu Server. This creates a new WINE prefix called ".wine_haloded" for Halo PC Dedicated Server to run in. This uses "screen" and it is assumed you know how to attach and detach to screens so that your Halo server can run in the background.

Preparation:

- Create a folder on your Windows Desktop called "HaloServer". Place "Halo_DS_1_02.exe", "halo_ds_maps_1_02.exe", "haloded103.exe", and your customized "init.txt" inside.

- Install and run Xming for Windows. This is needed for GUI installation of Halo PC.

- Install Putty with pscp and connect via SSH to your Ubuntu Server.

## Windows CMD (change "administrator" to your Ubuntu server login name:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\PuTTY\pscp.exe" -r "C:\Users\%USERNAME%\Desktop\HaloServer" administrator@192.168.1.215:"/home/administrator"
## Install and run Xming on Windows.

##Ubuntu Server 18.04.1 LTS 64-bit:
sudo dpkg --add-architecture i386 ##Activates 32-bit repositories.
sudo add-apt-repository universe ##Adds universe repository. Otherwise, wine dependencies fail.
wget https://dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/Release.key
sudo apt-key add Release.key
sudo apt-add-repository 'https://dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/ubuntu/'
sudo apt-get update ##Refreshes Repository List
sudo apt-get install --install-recommends wine-stable

export PATH=$PATH:/opt/wine-stable/bin
WINEARCH=win32 WINEPREFIX=$HOME/.wine_haloded winecfg  ##When prompted, install Mono and Gecko. Optional, set the Windows version to Server 2003.

WINEPREFIX=$HOME/.wine_haloded wine start /unix "$HOME/HaloServer/Halo_DS_1_02.exe"    ##Don't worry about any soundcard warnings. "Install" > "C:\Halo" > "Install". Close after install. Do not click "Play Now".
WINEPREFIX=$HOME/.wine_haloded wine start /unix "$HOME/HaloServer/halo_ds_maps_1_02.exe"    ##C:\Halo\maps
cp $HOME/HaloServer/haloded103.exe ~/.wine_haloded/drive_c/Halo/
cp $HOME/HaloServer/init.txt ~/.wine_haloded/drive_c/Halo/

#WINEPREFIX=$HOME/.wine_haloded wine start /unix $HOME/.wine_haloded/drive_c/Halo/haloded103.exe
screen -dm -S Halo ##Creates a detached screen console called "Halo".
screen -S Halo -X stuff 'cd $HOME/.wine_haloded/drive_c/Halo'$(echo -ne '\015') ##Fixes "Halo PC files missing or corrupted" error (levels\ui\ui)
screen -S Halo -X stuff 'env WINEPREFIX=$HOME/.wine_haloded WINEDEBUG=-all wineconsole --backend=curses "C:\Halo\haloded103.exe" -exec "C:\Halo\init.txt" -port 2302'$(echo -ne '\015') ##Starts the Halo PC Dedicated Server. "echo -ne \015" is the equivelant of pressing [Enter] on your keyboard - thus starting the server.
