HowTo / Notes

Abandonware

F-22 Raptor is now an abandoware

so it can be downloaded and played for free

my hint is to download it from https://www.myabandonware.com/

Workarounds

1) The game crashes on startup or the screen goes black forever

There is a problem in DirectDraw / OpenGL rendering so you can:

- change the rendering mode to something else, for example vulkan with the command winetricks renderer=vulcan
- switch off rendering completely with the command winetricks renderer=no3d
- change wine version, this problem was introduced with version 7.0.1 so every version before that, for example 7.0 is not affected by this issue

2) error about missing CD-ROM

- check the file Setup.CD in the first line it must be the letter of your CD-ROM reader, for example D:
- check the CD-ROM configuration by using the command winecfg
- if you are using the ISO file by mounting it, could be permission problems, I found that if you run wine with root privileges this solves the problem but I highly discorauged this

3) there is no sound

- check your hardware and software configuration, note that the game uses some MIDI

4) multiplayer

if you have problems with multiplayer, install DirectPlay may help, with the command winetricks directplay

- use the internet mode in any case, if you are using the game on internet or in your LAN
