What works
The installer, even though it is very touchy about dotnet, and I couldn't get it to work with mono.
At the final installation window, it reports a warning about usb drivers. They probably aren't getting installed correctly.
What does not
After installation, atmel studio is present but only runs briefly (shows the splash screen) and then closes.

These are the precise winetricks I issued before getting the installer to work:
- winetricks dotnet45 vcrun2010 vcrun2014 vcrun2015
Some of those may be unnecessary, but I was desperate. During the installation process, the Isolated Visual Studio 2015 shell is getting is installed; this IDE is basically a rehashed version of visual studio (2015?) so I'll look into that, maybe it works with wine already and some tricks can be used to let this one run.
