What works

The game runs fairly well overall. I haven't personally experienced any crashes, though I have experienced some unexpected behaviour, which I will describe later.

In all,

  • Singleplayer works.
    • Character creation functions entirely as designed.
    • Actual gameplay works.
    • The original campaign and Mysteries of Westgate both function.
  • Multiplayer works on LAN, though you do need to wait for the client to fail to connect to the game servers.
    • The netcode itself is dated, so there are sometimes desyncs of character position when moving, but they only seem to occur when moving close to obstacles. Otherwise everything seems fine.
    • No connection drops that I've experienced.

What does not

There is a bug with multisampling where turning on antialiasing will cause skyboxes to fail to render.

Workarounds

You need to manually install the following (I installed these via winetricks):

  • DirectX 9 D3D dll
    • I used d3dx9_43.dll
  • .Net Framework 2.0
    • The service packs don't seem to be necessary, but I'd still recommend installing them.

Without these, most textures will not load but the game seems to run. I didn't test extensively without those installed, though, and there could easily be issues I didn't encounter.

What was not tested

I haven't played multiplayer over anything other than LAN.

I haven't played through Mask of the Betrayer nor Storm of Zehir.

HowTo / Notes

HOWTO
  •  Use of dll overrides "devenum.dll" and "dxdiagn.dll" may be necessary for the game to run.
  •  Requires using winetricks to install directx9 and vcrun2005.
  •  The following registry key changes are recommended (Use the command "wine regedit" and then add them as strings to the appropriate directory):

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Wine\Direct3D]
OffscreenRenderingMode = fbo
UseGLSL = enabled
VideoMemorySize = 256

You may also put in whatever amount of memory your video card uses instead of 256.

  • To get the autoupdater to run, right click anywhere on the autoupdate window (except the status text part), and then click "dedicated internet connection". It should now work.
  • If you are unable to change resolution while using fullscreen mode, emulating a virtual desktop may be useful for getting the game to allow other resolutions.
