What works

Aside from a few issues, the game is playable to certain extent.

Initial launch may take around 10 minutes depending on the system (a black screen before the first 'CAPCOM' logo).  This may be due to shaders being built, during which there is noticeable I/O and CPU activity, so the application is clearly not just hung and stuck.  It will only happen on the first run, and sometimes after the resolution (or some other graphics setting(s)?) has been changed (not sure if Steam's 'Shader Pre-Caching' would affect this, as it was disabled during the tests).

Can not test if this happens for me on Windows as well.

What does not

  • After the company logos, the application will crash with the fatal error: "E_INVALIDARG : IDX11Device->CreateTexture3D(&desc.Texture3D,pinitdata,&ptex)", which can be mended using 'winetricks dxvk'.
  • After a variable period of playtime, the game appears to hang with the graphics frozen in place (music still plays).  This may happen on Windows as well, if using nvidia hardware and drivers.  Setting 'PowerMizer' to 'Prefer Maximum Performance' may be of help [1].
  • The Volume Rendering Quality setting seems to have a high impact on FPS, being able to take it down to to 0-1 from 30-80, when set to 'High'.  Lack of graphics memory might be an issue for a lot of the graphics settings here.
  • Occasionally the game seems to lose all contact with the keyboard, after which none of the keys are functional.  Mouse still works as expected, and the keyboard otherwise works outside the game.  Often this seems to be triggered by pressing 'Insert' to open the chat window, but not always.
  • Videos, such as those used for weapon tutorials, will crash the game.  Cutscenes such as the one at the very beginning work just fine (they seem to be rendered using the game engine).  A possible workaround might be to use certain Windows Media dlls (not tested) [2]/[3].

Workarounds

  • winetricks dxvk

What was not tested

  • Using controllers other than keyboard and mouse.
  • Extended gameplay.

Hardware tested

Graphics:

  • GPU: Nvidia
  • Driver: proprietary

Additional Comments

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 1700
  • Total RAM: 16 GiB

On the test system, out of the 1994 MB of dedicated graphics memory 100% is often used.  Lowering the resolution from 1080p down to 900p seems to make that a little better, with the memory use starting at around 85%, but it still seems to get up to 100% eventually.  Most of the graphics settings have been set to as low as possible

A lot of the issues here might be specific to nvidia hardware and drivers.
