See: Version History (0.14.2).

Fixed

  • An error when loading plugins with a file present in the plugins directory that has a filename containing characters that cannot be represented in the system code page. Via libloot.
  • An error when trying to read the version of an executable that does not have a US English version information resource. Executable versions are now read from the file’s first version information resource, whatever its language. Via libloot.

Changed

  • Updated libloot to 0.14.2.

What works

There is an installer, but it also just comes with a directly-runnable LOOT.exe, so that's the route I went with.

If the game is installed into a totally-clean WINEPREFIX, it will technically run, but does not seem to be able to actually manage any mod files (at least with Skyrim, which was the only game I tested).

What does not

When started in a totally clean WINEPREFIX all by itself, the app will run and bring up a settings dialog, but even manually putting in a path to an existing Skyrim installation (via the Z:\ mount) just results in an application error that it can't read the game files properly.

When run from a WINEPREFIX which does contain a Skyrim Steam install, the app crashes on startup pretty much right away, with:

wine: Unhandled exception 0x40000015 in thread 9 at address 0x527790 (thread 0009), starting debugger...

process  tid      prio (all id:s are in hex)

        0000000d    0
0000000e services.exe
        00000022    0
        0000001d    0

The app says it requires MSVC 2017 Redist, which I installed with winetricks, but that didn't change the launch behavior at all:

winetricks vcrun2017
