What works

Nothing, unable to install.

What does not

Installer is running, attempts to update and restart itself and fails with error message:

"cCottonInstance::doBoot() FAILED! exception: Failed to run query - 80041017"

I tried to track the issue and it seems to be a problem with wine being unable to execute a WQL query:

0058:trace:wbemprox:enum_class_object_Release destroying 0xc83200
0058:trace:wbemprox:wbem_services_ExecQuery 0xc837d0, L"WQL", L"ASSOCIATORS OF {Win32_LogicalDisk.DeviceID=''} WHERE AssocClass=Win32_LogicalDiskToPartition", 0x00000020, (nil), 0x23d530
0058:err:wbemprox:wql_error syntax error, unexpected TK_ID, expecting TK_SELECT
0058:trace:wbemprox:parse_query wql_parse returned 1
0058:trace:wbemprox:wbem_services_Release destroying 0xc837d0
0058:trace:wbemprox:wbem_locator_Release destroying 0xc80250

Running the installer again results in a couple of sharing violations when it tries to remove files in C:\ProgramData\XLN Audio\temp because the defunct process is still running. Killing wineserver and related processes and restarting the installer results in the same behaviour as described above.

What was not tested

Cannot test anything as the installer failed.

Additional Comments

I was able to install the program a while ago with an old wine prefix. I suspect the app itself to still work fine, but something seems to have changed in the XLN online installer that now seems to break compatibility.

Also tested with wine 3.0.3 and 4.1-staging, the behaviour remains the same.
