Installed from Steam
Everything as far as I can tell. I used the skip feature and let it go through a few minutes of gameplay. No errors in sight. Video playback was smooth and the menus worked just fine.
Windows XP 32 bit prefix
I downloaded and installed "DirectX End-User Runtimes June 2010 (directx_Jun2010_redist)" from Microsoft's website. This will extract the contents of the exe into a folder. From there, run the "DXSETUP.exe". This may be overkill, as it installs a multiple d3dx9 versions, but I was unable to find the specifics.
To start the launcher in the game's directory, launch with "wine launcher.exe EN".
What does not
What was not tested
The game's later chapters and the ending were not tested.
This game ran well on my aging x61 thinkpad with a core 2 duo running at around 2 GHz, 2 GB of ram, and integrated graphics, so there's that. I was running the lxde desktop environment after using the ubuntu 18.04 minimal installation image.
