What works

Almost entirely useable without major issues or lost functionality. Minor visual annoyances

  • Sound output is broken by default (after implementing workaround works as it)(1)
  • WAV file rendering produces valid results (if a workaround is implemented)(1)
  • Graphical user interface displays properly (if the steps below are taken)
    - Prior to installation the user needs to install ckjfonts,
    - The installer has to be ran with LANG=ja-JP.utf8,
    - After installation, the software has to be ran with LANG=ja-JP.utf8,
  • Japanese character encoding and uta—the default voice, if installed and ran correctly
  • OTO configuration,
  • Default plugins,
  • tested 3rd party plugins*,
  • tested resamplers**,
  • default wavtool, wavtool64

*Tested 3rd party plugins: iroiro2, ????????(frq editor) - editing of mrq, frq,
**Tested resamplers: resampler (default), moresampler 0.8.4, doppeltler009, f2resamp005, phaavoco001, TIPS, tn_fnds009

What does not

  1. Playback timing is broken by default.
  2. Mojibake if installed and/or running without  LANG=ja-JP.utf8, text looks wrong and doesn't display japanese characters
  3. Playing back a sample in the configuration window caused the software to crash.

Workarounds

  1. Enabling the Note length calculated by GUI front-end (old wavtool.exe behavior) option fixes playback timing issues,
  2. Mojibake fix: run installer with LANG=ja-JP.utf8 (and UTAU.exe, every time it is used)
  3. Installing ckjfonts fixes lack of japanese characters (essential for using the application); installing fakejapanese_ipamona fixes issues with font legibility on OpenSUSE Leap 15.3
  4. Resizing the window horizontally makes menu text appear properly,

What was not tested

MIDI input and output

Graphics:

  • GPU: Unknown
  • Driver: open source

Additional Comments

UST files should be opened after changing the UTAU executable command; it should include LANG=ja-JP.utf8
