What does not
Actual Gameplay Thief crashes exactly as specified in bug #5024 - on the initial screen just about when the main menu is to be displayed. starting with WINEDEBUG="+d3d,+d3d_shader,+d3d_surface,+d3d_draw" wine t3.exe 1>> ~/Thief3/wine_thief_start.log 2>> ~/Thief3/wine_thief_start.log produced 11MB log file but at it's end it looks the same as the last attachment posted on the bug page so I won't repost it again.
What was not tested
The Gameplay was not tested
I made this test just for the record - so that the wine crew know that Thief is still crashing the same way with the latest (0.9.35) wine version.

"If your sound card is not properly detected, try switching the sound to OSS in winecfg. I can make no guarantees, but I was able to play through the entire training mission. I experienced two major problems: text was not rendered properly and the "mouse stop" was not always done correctly." - Erich Hoover
