Training session actually appears to work. Given the other difficulties this is a very pleasant surprise. Motion is smooth (once all the debug output is disabled) and graphically everything looks good.
What does not
Game does not run at all without NoCD replacement version of t3.exe. Text in menus is mostly completely illegible, which makes saving the game an interesting exercise (haven't figured it out yet).
The most annoying problem is the cursor. Even in full screen mode it gets stuck at the edge of the screen -- fortunately hitting Esc to bring up the menu screen allows the cursor to be recentred and the game can be resumed.
Two crashes are reported, one during startup (presumably a cut scene fails to play), and one on exit.
Produces storms of output:
fixme:d3d:state_wrap (WINED3DRS_WRAP0) Texture wraping not yet supported
err:d3d_shader:shader_get_registers_used No texture bound to sampler 0
Made the game playable by running with WINEDEBUG=-all set.
What was not tested
Actual gameplay, as yet. Net to figure out how to save first...
Installed "Sold Out" version. Does not run out of the box, had to download a nocd version of t3.exe, but that seems to run ok. Using ATI Radeon X1650 with current ATI drivers. Don't actually know if the NoCD crack matches the rest of the files: the training mission appears to play ok.

"If your sound card is not properly detected, try switching the sound to OSS in winecfg. I can make no guarantees, but I was able to play through the entire training mission. I experienced two major problems: text was not rendered properly and the "mouse stop" was not always done correctly." - Erich Hoover
