What works

Everything works, after deleting some incompatible dll files in wine, and installing according to certain steps.

What does not

Audio import is limited (requires .wav or .mp4 files)

Workarounds

1. Uninstall all Wine-Mono (This not function with Sony Vegas Pro) If necessary use wine uninstaller.

2. Run winecfg and choose Windows 7. (This is necessary to install official frameworks.)

3. Install official Microsoft frameworks 4, 4.62 and 4.8 (I'm not sure if all of them are necessary, but at least version 4, always install the minor version towards the major one.)

4. Install Vegas Pro and its license

5. Delete the folder c:\Program Files\VEGAS\VEGAS Pro 16.0\FileIO Plug-Ins\aviplug\" (incompatible or does not work in wine)

6. Delete "c:\Program Files\VEGAS\VEGAS Pro 16.0\x86\FileIOProxyStubx86.dll" (incompatible or does not work in wine)

7. Delete "c:\Program Files\VEGAS\VEGAS Pro 16.0\x86\FileIOSurrogate.exe" (incompatible or does not work in wine)

8. For audio files use the .wav format (or mp4 if possible), wine does not support mp3 for Sony Vegas

What was not tested

Everything has been tested, edits and renderings, everything works perfectly except AVI, MP3 import, whose solution is to use WAV and MP4 formats. Even video rendering works perfectly.

The speed and quality of rendering will depend on the graphics card and its correct driver installation.

Hardware tested

Graphics:

  • GPU: Intel
  • Driver: open source

Additional Comments

Rendering capabilities depend on correct hardware recognition (hardware acceleration). Therefore, it is recommended to use NVIDIA Graphics Cards with their corresponding drivers. Integration with Sony Vegas will depend on drivers and full graphics card support between Linux, Wine and Sony Vegas.

The software has been tested on various Linux distributions and with different versions of wine. The ones that give the best results are wine 8.0.4, 8.15 to 8.3. In distributions whose repositories do not allow installing versions above 8.0.4, other things fail.

Different versions of Vegas were also tested (14, 15, 16, 17). Versions above 17 don't even install correctly because they require system web view 2
