WineHQ

Addictive Drums

This version (AD 2.1.9) is the one installed / updated by the XLN Installer, the software XLN Audio has found appropriate with the advent of AD2 and their other VIs for installing and updating their products. Since the installer always checks for updates, I believe this version of AD2 is the most recent (as of this writing). The installer updates itself as well. There has been a few mishaps with this installer s/w for quite a few wine versions but with wine 4.12.1, it finally works :)

What works

So far as I could test within an hour or so, everything seems to work.

I make it work with either wineasio (by running the standalone AD2 exe) or fsthost-1.6.2 (using the VST plugin) which turns AD2 into a jackd client. I am currently running on a 64 bit laptop running Debian 10 Buster and wine-staging 4.12.1.

There are 2 minor issues that I could observe:

-1 with wineasio, I cannot select a MIDI port in the Audio & Midi setup window, I can only cnfigure the audio parameters

-2 with fsthost, audio and midi work, but jackd (version: jackdmp 1.9.12) constantly emits logging messages (which does not interfere with the performance but it is still a minor annoyance).

Apart from these 2 issues, the GUI works really nicely, nothing feels sluggish or dysfunctional.

What does not

As I said, when selecting wineasio and configuring the midi parameters, you cannot select the MIDI port (a2j port in my case), the select button is not checked upon clicking on it.

Workarounds

I use fsthost (64 bit) since I need MIDI connection to ardour.

What was not tested

It was a quick test and there are many things that I did not have the time to check. However, I am very familiar with the software and I couldn't see anything obvious that would not work so far.

Additional Comments

So far as I am concerned, it works as good as I could expect it to work on Windows save for the small annoyances I mentioned.

I am very satisfied to see this amazing s/w work again with linux :)
