Selected Test Results

What works

  • Launcher
  • Menu
  • Game
  • B3D - RoomMapConversion opens
  • LightMapPNG opens
  • Save/Load
  • Game is stable as on Windows (Performance does not degrade or bug quick, but expect crash in longer play)

What does not

  • MapCreator hangs in a blank splash screen
  • window3d crashes
  • Intro cutscene does not play (allcodecs workaround did not worked and seems to make compatibility worse)
  • Glitchy text fonts
  • Launcher and game freezes if moved to second screen (set your desired screen for the game as default)
  • Ground illumination is miscalculated - ground will look divided or so much dark in some places
  • Game crashes on startup - "Memory Access Violation" (has workaround)

To avoid Memory Access Violation at startup, open options.ini and change the following line:

play startup video = false

What was not tested

  • Game endings
  • B3D - RoomMapConversion and LightMapPNG features
  • Entrance zone
  • Not all SCPs were tested during my testing gameplay, but they seem to be all ok
  • Update, as there were no release after this version

Hardware tested

  • GPU: Intel
  • Driver: open source

Additional Comments

Because of the very outdated engine this game is made on, this game is very unstable on Windows itself, and suffers from performance degradation and crash in a long gameplay. Current Wine seems to have fewer of this problem than Windows but still faces this issue. This is to be in consideration as this might be confused as a "Wine bug".

If the game starts to glitch out very quick on this game version on future Wine releases, then it might be a driver issue or Wine issue itself, but it's to be expected to be MAV and graphical flickers after some gameplay time.

I've got an MAV after more or less 1 hour of gameplay.

Instructions to run this game
by Josesk Volpe on Friday November 12th 2021, 22:11
TGP managed to run this game on Wine and made a instruction video how to play this game:
It did worked for me on Wine 6.19

He can't figure out how to make a report on Wine AppDB. I'll make some tests and submit a new report with a new classification

"intro enabled" property makes no effect to me
Memory Acess Violation
by Josesk Volpe on Sunday July 25th 2021, 17:00
Game is unplayable, no matter how you modify option.ini and your wine prefixes, it gives "memory acess violation" after loading the menu

Finally, i was able to play it by using PlayOnLinux. I think it needs an older Wine version to run, wich is 3.0.3
