World of Warcraft Classic - Goes live August 26th, 2019 - 3:00 PDT for US regions. Vanilla wow reborn, with some code improvements, but the complete look and feel of WoW Vanilla. Relive the original, and make new friends. Name reservation is open now, for up to 3 characters, horde or alliance, that were around in vanilla. No servers will allow horde and alliance on the same account, but you can put horde on one server and alliance on another. Join the classic movement.
Everything works. I start the game using the Battle.net app, use third party add-ons, switch to windowed mode and move the window from screen to screen, get disconnected and log back in, switch between chars, play PvP, participate in raids, etc. I can play the game on Linux without any restrictions compared to playing it on Windows on the same machine.
I can play the game in fullscreen mode as well as windowed mode and switch between modes at runtime. The game supports putting a hard limit on the FPS it renders. Depending on the situation I can achieve 100-200 FPS on my machine and using the in-game limiter, I make the game restrict itself to 100 FPS (but more consistently).
What does not
What was not tested
I did not try installing the game. I have dual-boot in place and Battle.net found my Windows installation and I have been reusing it.
Using OOTB Wine 5.0 I get a perfectly working game, but a relatively poor performance, especially only about 80-100 FPS. I installed DXVK 1.5.1 using the binaries as provided at https://github.com/doitsujin/d...
and this is how I ended up with the mentioned 100-200 FPS, depending on the in-game situation.
While I reuse the WoW that I installed using Windows, I was unable to reuse the Battle.net app from Windows. I did a fresh installation of the Battle.net app, using wine, and the app did find my WoW installation on the Windows partition and is able to use that. It is quite convenient that I only have one WoW installation on my machine, but can play it on Linux as well as on Windows.
