What works

Have done extensive testing and daily use for a while. Its very stable.

Document of most types tested.

Searching works.

Guides, word studies and info panel work.

Notes work.

Highlighting works.

You can't download and view resources or do software updates from
within the app. If you access cloud resources it is fine. Full build and
install instructions are in a google doc here: https://docs.google.com/docume...

What does not

64bit - If you install the 64bit version indexing doesn't complete.

Audio and Video fail to play. (Use webapp for these features) - fixme:wmp:OleObject_QueryInterface...

Read aloud causes crash. Installing speechsdk fixes crash but no audio

Logos.exe fails to fully end process on exit sometimes. Workaround is to manually end the process with a task manager.

Printing - rtf export worked but printing to a printer did not. Also all page size options missing.

Workarounds

use the webapp to access any media resources such as audio or video. This is not too much of a problem since these depend on web access

anyway.

export text to libreoffice for printing.

Use web browser for screen reading.

Indexing may not complete unless the win version is set to winxp.

Installation Guide

If you are looking to get Logos working on linux your very best choice is the wasta packages see the google doc linked above. These instructions are here for reference for those who are participating in the painfully laborious process of testing new versions or new systems. If that is you then good luck and please communicate with us on telegram. Telegram shared files on the Running Logos Bible Software on Linux group found at - https://t.me/linux_logos  If you just want it to work please use wasta many hours have been spent to make that as painless and easy as possible - enjoy.

Note the software requires a user and password. A basic account is free from logos.com

enable multi-arch on an amd64 system:
dpkg --add-architecture i386
sudo apt-get update

Download and install the winehq repository key:

wget -nc https://dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/winehq.key
sudo apt-key add winehq.key

Edit /etc/apt/sources.list to add wine repos with: for other versions see: https://wiki.winehq.org/Download

Debian (change bullseye according to the version you have installed.)
sudo add-apt-repository ‘deb http://dl.winehq.org/wine-buil... bullseye main’
Ubuntu (change eoan according to the version you have installed)
sudo apt-add-repository 'deb https://dl.winehq.org/wine-bui... eoan main'

sudo apt-get update

Choose wine-staging (5.0rc2 known to work)
sudo apt-get install wine-staging winetricks winbind cabextract

Set up 32 bit wine bottle (note people have great problems indexing with 64bit):
env WINEARCH=win32 WINEPREFIX=$HOME/.wine-logos sh winetricks arch=32 prefix=$HOME/ .wine-logos -q dotnet472 corefonts ddr=gdi fontsmooth=rgb win7

click "Cancel" to avoid installation of Mono and Gecko neither are needed. (may take 30mins to finish even on a fast machine with ssd)

run Logos x32 or x64: download from https://downloads.logoscdn.com/LBS8/Installer/8.10.0.0032/Logos-x86.msi (or x64)
WINEPREFIX=$HOME/.wine-logos/ msiexec /i $HOME/Downloads/Logos-x86.msi

run Logos
WINEPREFIX=$HOME/.wine-logos/ wine $HOME/.wine-logos/drive_c/users/$USER/Local\ Settings/Application\ Data/Logos/Logos.exe

"Download your Logos Library" - it is recommeded to choose minimal install and download the rest later.
"Downloading resources" (could take hrs)
"Preparing Library" (probs a few mins)
"Indexing" (could take a day)

If indexing fails:
Set windows version for indexing
WINEPREFIX=$HOME/.wine-logos/winetricks winxp

Try running the indexer directly so that error messages are easier to keep and share.

WINEPREFIX=$HOME/.wine-logos/ wine c\:'/users/$USER/Local Settings/Application Data/Logos/System/LogosIndexer.exe'

LogosLinuxInstaller v1.0
by Daniel Ribeiro da Silva on Saturday December 28th 2019, 2:18
Hi everybody! I have finished the version 1.0 of the script to install Logos Bible 8 32bits on any Linux 64bits (even no-multilib), and one script to uninstall to remove the installation. It uses its own mini-Linux 32bits to run wine (all in one file with less than 300MB) to make a ~/.wine32 installation and run it without system alteration on any 64bit Linux distribution. I already tested it, but I need more people to test it (You don't need to type any command line), and report issues on github. Link: github.com/ferion11/LogosLinuxInstaller/releases
After the wine ReOpenFile implementation, Logos on linux is a reality.

I almost gave up to use native Logos on Linux, but now I can use it very well. After the wine ReOpenFile implementation, Logos on linux is a reality.
I only use Linux
by Jesse Steele on Wednesday December 25th 2019, 9:29
I graduated with a degree in Bible and I use Logos. But, for many reasons, I switched to Linux and haven't been able to use Logos like I need to. I either need Logos to work on all three main desktop platforms (Win, Mac, Linux) or I will have to find an alternative. For me, there isn't an option, it is Logos for Linux of bust. Because many Bible grads are multi-talented people, I know I'm not alone.

The good news is Logos on linux works so well you can use it as your main Logos system. Many folks now do! N.b. it is faster I think than on mac!
