What works

  • Installation.

What does not

  • Loading the game. Once its starts to load the game, the minute it hits 90%, bug #20210 kicks in and you are dumped back to the desktop.
  • The desktop cannot restore itself to its normal resolution after the application exits, a problem also in the original RCT3. A quick and permanent fix is to edit ~/.wine/drive_c/users/(your username here)/Application Data/Atari/RCT3/Options.txt and change the resolution field to, for example if your native desktop resolution is 1920x1080:
Resolution 1920 1080

This is a how-to I posted over on shyguy's world on installing RCT3 when you have an nvidia optimus enabled graphics card.

Get background music/menu music etc. working

Posted by Sander on Friday March 2nd 2012, 18:20
MP3 background music works fine.
Convert all music in /Atari/RollerCoaster Tycoon 3/Music/ to mp3 using ffmpeg. Then replace .wma with .mp3 in MusicGenre.txt

Enjoy :)

I will post a more in depth how to tomorrow when i have time.

however i did do a quick test with summerair.wma which is the default music and it seemed to work.

ATI Video Cards with closed drivers
by Thomas R. on Monday July 11th 2011, 19:17
If you use an ATI card and the closed source drivers, make sure you have at least 11.6, else you will see crashes.
Mac Support

Please note that improving Mac Compatibility for RCT3 is taking a back burner as this game has now been released as a native Mac application as seen here:
