The Old God N’Zoth has been unleashed from his titanwrought prison, and
an ancient corruption has taken root across Azeroth, turning friends
into foes and trapping warriors’ minds in nightmare visions of a
hopeless future. As despair and madness consume the land, the heroes of
the Horde and the Alliance will need to fight for their sanity—and the
fate of their wounded world in this content update.
Installed on a clean wine prefix. winecfg set default to Windows 10. Battle.net installs and runs perfectly. World of Warcraft downloads and installs. When I press the "play" button after install finishes game attempts to launch and computers says game is running, but screen freezes. When I take the game out of fullscreen via the cairodock, I can see that the window exists for the game, but the window only reflects the Desktop background and icons. WINE appears to be unable to draw the game itself.
What does not
Game will not draw.
What was not tested
I had high hopes for Wine 5.0 to fix the problems with retail WoW, but I guess it wasn't meant to be this round. I'm guessing the culprit is the DirectX 12 which the game now runs on. I tried installing the vulkan libraries, but still no effect. If this is the direction Windows gaming is going, the Wine project is going to need to address DirectX 12 compatibility that doesn't require more than an extra package install soon. All previous versions of WoW running on DirectX 9.0c work flawlessly that I have tested.
