What works

Runs as expected, plays fine, sound seems fine, changes video modes as long as the mode you are trying to use is supported by X. No glaring drawing errors or anything like that.

What does not

  1. The installer left Quake 4 functional, but all the strings were missing.  Fixed by copying the files from a Windows installation after installing.
  2. On start, it says that a debugger is running and then quits.  Installed no-cd crack and it no longer complains.
  3. Wine 0.9.3.  Errors, and dies on splash screen.  Had to reinstall Wine 0.9.2.
  4. Quake's windowed mode.  Used wine's simulate a desktop instead, which works fairly well.

Workarounds

What was not tested

  1. Performance/frame rate.  It is, however, playable on my fairly modest system: Celeron D 2.26Ghz, 2 GB ram, GeForce 6200.
  2. Linux
