What works

- Installing
- downloading games
- playing games
- syncing savegames
- integrations
- showing the overlay (see below)

What does not

- The UI is very slow especially if you move or resize the window
- The overlay will not contain content in the main tile (it will claim that there was no internet connection) but it will still show your friendlist and you can toggle FPS

Workarounds

Install corefonts via winetricks. That will at least solve the black-window error

What was not tested

- Messenger

- Notifications

Hardware tested

Graphics:

  • GPU: Nvidia
  • Driver: proprietary

Additional Comments

Note that installing corefonts or setting a DLL override for libgles2.dll is not necessary anymore.

The installer said that there were an error because of missing components at the end but I have not yet had any problems that could go back to that.

How to install under wayland
by Ilia Efimov on Wednesday October 18th 2023, 5:30
1. Install mono from dl.winehq.org/wine/wine-mono/
2. Run installer with gamescope --force-composition --xwayland-count 2 -- wine GOG_Galaxy_2.0.exe
3. If it fails find wine_profile_dir -iname "*galaxy*", will find something like GalaxySetup.exe
4. After installation, it will run without gamescope
winetricks corefonts

I just installed. At first, it did not show any text so I did winetricks corefonts and now I have all the text working.
It does work; almost

I downloaded the off-line installer from

remote-config.gog.com/components/webinstaller?component_version=2.0.0

and with a fresh prefix, it installed flawlessly, started flawlessly, but I ran in to an error with rendering, and it appears to be some libcef related issue. Not sure how to log the error (its also a GUI popup error).

Would this entry also encompass the GoG Downloader & Installer service?

I ask because there seem to be multiple Galaxy entries but not for installer itself, nor the game downloader.

Sorry, not entirely sure what you're talking about. If you mean the offline installers for individual games, that should be documented alongside the game itself ("Installs: Yes")

My apologies, I shouldn't have mentioned them together ?
But the installer for the GoG Galaxy Client itself (and any pre-requisites that it might bring alongside it) was more along the lines of what I was thinking.

It seems to have issues with more recent updates and using stuff like Lutris or Proton on something like the Steamdeck doesn't necessarily help :/ Since GoG themselves didn't want to support Linux outright. It would limit Linux Gamers to lose the features like the Multiplayer ones, or Cloud-Saves, or Integrations etc etc.

Or even the more social features of the app :/

Same thing, the installation process for Galaxy should be documented in a test entry for this application, there is no point in making "Galaxy installer" a separate app.
