What works

Installation, running, setting to English, game analysis, kifu (game record) loading, "consider" mode, playing against the AI, most settings.

What does not

Japanese characters may not render correctly (board coordinates etc.)

Workarounds

I resolved the Japanese character issue by manually editing the config file. Make sure to close ShogiGUI before starting editing, otherwise the application will just overwrite your changes.

I set all font-related lines to use a CJK font I knew I had installed, something like:

    Noto Sans CJK JP, 9pt
    true

across the entire file. Now the characters appear, and only the main board labels are slightly offset.

What was not tested

Online functionality (Shogi Wars integration).

Additional Comments

Your wine bottle needs to be win64, otherwise the packaged versions of gpsfish (the actual shogi engine) won't work, even though ShogiGUI itself is a win32 executable.

I'm fairly sure this needs wine-mono installed, or your distribution's equivalent.
