Tale of Two Wastelands is a total conversion project that seamlessly merges Fallout 3 and its DLC into Fallout: New Vegas, allowing both games to be played in a single playthrough. It upgrades Fallout 3's mechanics to those of FNV without compromising the feel and balance of the original. New Vegas mechanics like companion wheel, companion perks, weapon mods, crafting, recipes, harvestable plants, and poisons have been added to the DC wasteland items, NPCs, and world.

Going through DC Wasteland and Mojave, including all their DLCs.

Light-weight optimization mod / nvse tweak.

What does not


  • Without "d3d9.dll" overdriving (set Native then Builtin) you might get continuously "D3DXLoadSurfaceFromMemory function" in verbose console;


  • Running the game under OSX but I got continuously "qtdatahandler:myComponentRoutineProc unhandled" in console, neither overdriving "Quartz.dll" nor replace builtin one is working. Googling and notice somewhere and say that might related to wine d3d engine or Quicktime encoder can not handle the wine decode layer request. Still looking for solutions.
  • Pip-boy radio music channel, background and environment music was missing (mute), but radio device music, record and voice working as it was.Sound lagging\clicking\crackling\glitch became serious once you got more than 3 or 5 enemies, or just blowing a bomb job. It makes you frustrating sometime.There's mouse glitch problem if you are using Wine version above 5.0 stable. 5.0 Staging and Dev was tried and glitch the same.


  • ENB does not work for me because I'd had d3d9.dll overdriving, but honestly I didn't hope it much because the fps results of the game was good enough for me to play.

Workarounds



  • "Winetricks d3d9 d3dx9_38" or place d3d9.dll and d3dx9_38.dll within the game folder then set dll overdriving in Winecfg. With this work you could get rid of "D3DXLoadSurfaceFromMemory function" continuously happening.


  • Set Quartz.dll overdriving or placing it to game folder might fix the continuously  "qtdatahandler:myComponentRoutineProc unhandled", but it's not work for me, might related to my Quicktime decoder or something else.

Additional Comments

I'm having MacBook Pro Retina Mid-2015 to play and test.

i7 2.5ghz with 4 cores 8 threads

16g ram and 512g rom, iris pro core-gpu and R9 MX370 GPU


I'm looking for an accurate fps counter to test the game but none for wine on Mac,

just test with a mod name FPS counter for Fallout NV from Nexusemod,

it shows 25 ~ 45 fps outside the wasteland without optimization and got 30 ~ 50 fps after a series optimization,

with Windows 10 real-on-mac testing, Adrenaline GPU drives the game ran under 40 ~ 70 fps.


For the good FPS result I'm not so much willing to switch in-between the system to play the game,

so I did a trick on Mac using terminal to play the game within the same save but different machine environment.

Move the game data folder \ save folder \ MOD & plugins folder (which within the "Local Setting" in Win7 or  "Local" folder in Win10) to the bootcamp drive and link them to where they were with "ln -s" in terminal,

then you will run your game-save in both way  :)

(Might get "wine: Read access denied for device L"\\??\\?:\\", FS volume label and serial are not available." but it's just an error without any trouble to the game and system.)
