As a continuation from my previous post. I've upgraded to Wine 1.1.5 to see if there was any improvement, and no, it doesn't. Playing a game requires you to do the ALT-SPACE or ALT-TAB multiple times before you can click on a character, MOVE a character, and advance turns. I was able to play 2 turns of the game before it finally locked up.
What does not
When it finally allows you to move a character, the graphical cursor will disappear. The cursor is active because you can roll over some of the graphical buttons, but you can't see where you are clicking on the map so you can't tell where you will end up. After a bit of doing this with 2 turns taking about 15 minutes, it completely locked up and I had to get to a terminal window and kill the wine process. I decided it was completely and utterly unplayable. So, I am changing my rating to garbage. The computer playing against itself is a much smoother experience... I should have playtested a little further before the last writeup.
What was not tested
Again, multiplayer and any network based gameplay.
This is a classic game and I would love to see it work. I even have trouble getting this running on Windows XP, though. So it's probably just about at the very end of its life.
