Selected Test Results

What works

  • Installing,
  • running from CD,
  • quick game (along with terrain, animations, weapons, etc.),
  • training disciplines (except for afterwards),
  • mission mode (except for afterwards),
  • deathmatch mode (except for afterwards),
  • local singleplayer and multiplayer games,
  • LAN games (hosting, joining),
  • creating and editing teams, as well as viewing statistics,
  • creating and editing schemes,
  • different resolutions,
  • the terrain editor.

What does not

  • The right-click weapons menu will freeze input completely, unless the process is run in an emulated virtual desktop environment,
  • when a training exercise, mission, or a deathmatch has completed, the game will not respond to mouse input. It is necessary to kill the process through the terminal it is running from (ctrl+c), but progress in-game will be saved. It is possible that this is due to the message boxes (output will be posted to bugzilla),
  • when certain sounds are played, the game will temporarily slow down due to errors in DSound, judging from terminal output (output will be posted to bugzilla),
  • WORMNET (no error in terminal).

Workarounds

What was not tested

  • A few weapons,
  • not all missions,
  • not all exercises,
  • not all maps,
  • LAN games over IPX/SPX.

Additional Comments

All testing was done in the English European version 1.1 of the game with the additional files in the "data" folder on the CD copied to the data folder on the HDD. I tested only with a legally used no-CD patch. I followed the existing HOWTO (copied the dlls).

HowTo / Notes

HOWTO

2016-05-16 Admin note: the instructions below are extremely outdated and not likely to work in current Wine. They are left here as a starting point for anyone who may wish to update them.

The installer may encounter an error while copying files. If it does, run the setup program for the demo version, but abort it when the welcome screen appears.

  • Place the ddraw.dll from the correct archive below in the directory where you installed Worms World Party.
    Wine 0.9.47
    Wine 0.9.46
    Wine 0.9.45
    Wine 0.9.44
    Wine 0.9.43
If you can't find your Wine version on the list above, try finding a file 'wa_ddraw_{yourwineversion}.tar.bz2' here
  • If you're experiencing sound problems, place devenum.dll and quartz.dll in Wine's windows/system32 directory (usually ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32), and use winecfg to add a DLL override so wwp.exe uses native 'quartz' and 'devenum'.
  • If you update to 1.1, place msvcp60.dll in Wine's windows/system32 directory
  • If you are not running Wine in a desktop emulating window (winecfg Graphics tab), the game freezes if you right-click to bring up the weapon menu. However, it is possible to select weapons with the F1-F12 keys.
