What works

Almost all is ok and very good (gpu performances are better than under windows if i believe the telemetry repport in the star citizen web site)

What does not

In all wine version tested, i have issues with my mouse and my keyboard.

The mouse (Kone Pure SE) was recognized as a joystick, need to blacklist it with a udev rule BEFORE installation.

(in a new file : /etc/udev/rules.d/51-these-are-not-joysticks-rm.rules)

SUBSYSTEM=="input", ATTRS{idVendor}=="1e7d", ATTRS{idProduct}=="2dca", ENV{ID_INPUT_JOYSTICK}=="?*", ENV{ID_INPUT_JOYSTICK}=""
SUBSYSTEM=="input", ATTRS{idVendor}=="1e7d", ATTRS{idProduct}=="2dca", KERNEL=="js[0-9]*", RUN+="/bin/rm %E{DEVNAME}", ENV{ID_INPUT_JOYSTICK}=""

If else, it will be in conflict in wine control panel (see a joystick in game peripherals and can't remove it into wine, the joystick always re-appear after relaunch.

After remove /dev/input/js0, i have ghosting keys issues. No more than 2 keys can be typed at the same time.

I tryed with the function "use dumb xinput emulator" proposed in lutris game config but it don't change anything.

The keyboard is an ELITE K10 with anti-ghosting capacity.

Another issue are sometime i don't have any sound, or have some "cracking" noises, but not very bad, it's very smouthy...

Workarounds

- > When the game launch, it go in abckground of the desktop.

2 ways possible :

do alt-tab to switch with the launcher and come back,

Or lanch the game in a virtual desktop

-> at the first launch, all freeze fully

need to wait about 5 to 15 minutes before all fully loaded and after it's ok.

What was not tested

FOIP not tested yet.

Play with discord app in a background didn't tested too...

Hardware tested

Graphics:

  • GPU: AMD
  • Driver: proprietary

HowTo / Notes

Crashing due to resource limit reached, workaround.

StarCitizen can crash from requesting more resources than many default operating system configurations typically permit. You can increase this with:

sysctl vm.max_map_count=2147483647

Runtime Error

People on CPUs released before 2016 report Runetime Errors with failure of in-game VoIP and FoIP after about 20 minutes of gameplay. You can ignore the MessageBox and continue using the program, but VoIP and FoIP will not function.

There are custom runners for StarCitizen which correct this issue that can be used with Lutris, and WINE 6.4 does not have this issue.
