What works

Installer works fine for SAP GUI components.

Connecting to ABAP systems.

Running all kinds of transactions.

New ABAP editor (works A LOT better than the Java GUI running natively).

Old ABAP editor.

OLE controls (ALV, Graphics).

abapGit.

All themes - Belize, Corbu, SAP Signature and Classic.

What does not

(macOS specific) Belize Theme does not have the INS/OVR toggle on the status bar, therefore deactivating the Overwrite mode is troublesome as there's no Insert key.

Some HTML embedding transactions such as abapGit have small rendering issues due to IE8 being really old (woff fonts don't load properly, round border CSS, etc).

Workarounds

winetricks required for Installer to work:

  • vb6run
  • wsh57
  • ie8

winetricks required for some functionality to work properly after installation:

  • gdiplus (for alternative Belize colors)
  • corefonts (for Belize rendering issues)

Internet links were opened in Internet Explorer by default. To make them open in my regular browser, I changed the following registry keys.
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\http\shell\open\command]
(Default) = C:\windows\system32\winebrowser.exe -nohome "%1"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\https\shell\open\command]
(Default) = C:\windows\system32\winebrowser.exe -nohome "%1"

(macOS specific) To simulate the native Copy/Past shortcuts, I had to add the following registry keys.
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Win e\Mac Driver]
LeftCommandIsCtrl = Y
RightCommandIsCtrl = Y

What was not tested

Other components besides SAP GUI (such as BW, etc).

GuiXT scripting.

Nothing that requires .NET or Java.

Microsoft Office integration.

Printing.

Hardware tested

Graphics:

  • GPU: Intel
  • Driver: unknown

Additional Comments

Using it overall is more comfortable than using the Java GUI, especially for writing ABAP code and accessing older systems that don't support Eclipse ADT.

UI responsiveness and redrawing performance varies depending on the selected theme (Belize being the slowest, Classic the fastest).
