What works

  • Playing the story (by either selecting it in the main menu or launching with the -sp flag)
  • Playing on servers with svadhesive turned off and sv_lan set to 1

What does not

  • Will always crash if win ver is set to 8 or above.
  • Will also crash if run with adhesive (the anti-cheat) active.
  • Joining any servers with svadhesive and without sv_lan set to 1 (which will be the vast majority) won't work.
  • FXDK doesn't run.

Workarounds

  • Ensure winver is set to 7, at least for these executables:
    • FiveM.exe
    • FiveM_ChromeBrowser
    • FiveM_ROSLauncher
    • FiveM_ROSService
    • FiveM_bXXXX_GameProcess.exe, depending on the game build(s) you want to play on (e.g. 2545)
  • Remove adhesive.dll from your FiveM.app folder and add a FiveM.exe.formaldev file in the same folder as FiveM.exe
    • Removing adhesive.dll will ensure the anti-cheat won't run, which currently doesn't work in wine and will cause a crash on start up
    • By default FiveM will detect adhesive.dll as missing and try to redownload it, which FiveM.exe.formaldev prevents
    • Note that FiveM.exe.formaldev will also prevent updates so make sure to remove it occasionally
    • You might be able to prevent adhesive.dll from being redownloaded through other means, I haven't tried
  • NOTE: Not required anymore for newer FiveM builds as it'll launch in insecure mode by default

  • Ensure fsync / esync isn't turned on when installing / updating, can be turned on when starting up normally though

What was not tested

  • Trying every existing game build (-bXXXX launch parameter)

Hardware tested

Graphics:

  • GPU: Nvidia
  • Driver: proprietary

Additional Comments

Seems to require a wine build with --without-mingw, otherwise the FiveM_ChromeBrowser process crashes repeatedly.

Works fine with mingw builds, as long as you don't use STAGING_WRITECOPY=1

HowTo / Notes

Setting up a server without svadhesive

If you want to set up your own server to play on, do the following to be able to play on it:

  • Remove "svadhesive" from alpine/opt/cfx-server/components.json
  • Add sv_lan 1 to your server config
