What works

Installation

"wine ./affinity-photo-1.8.5.exe" fails. However there is a workaround to run "wine msiexec /passive /i ./Affinity.msi" (see workaround).

Run Photo after installation

"wine '../drive_c/Program Files/Affinity/Affinity Photo/Photo.exe'" fails. See workaround to fix it.

Workarounds

Installation

1. To launch installer, dotnet35 is required. At least dotnet45 is recommended, it is possible that the installer updates from .NET 4.5 to .NET 4.7.2 by itself (not guarantied).
   export WINEPREFIX=~/.wineprefixes/stock
   wine wineboot -i
   winetricks -q dotnet35
   winetricks -q dotnet45
   winetricks -q dotnet472
   
   Kill wineserver by hand, if winetricks is unable to kill it. If there is more than one wineserver, kill the wineserver that actually wrote to disk
2. Extract installer for workaround: This step must be done on Windows. Open the command line (cmd.exe) and go to the directory where the Affinity Photo installer is located. Run the affinity-photo-1.8.5.exe /extract command (the file name may be different). Complete the required data and create an MSI installer. Transfer the created MSI file to your system with Wine.

What was not tested

Working with Photo. On the one hand it is possible to run Photo with workarounds, but currently it is not possible to load or create an image file.
