The only version of the game for Windows, no installer
Pretty much everything works as expected with no crashes.
Sound, picture (including cutscenes), gameplay.
What does not
Cutscenes don't work without workarounds. In addition to that, without proper Wine configuration triggering fullscreen mode may break the game. If you're okay with this you don't need to do anything.
Assuming you're using the english patch from legendsworld, and a no-installer RIP.
First, I recommend creating a new 32-bit prefix (using playonlinux or manually). Tested wine versions are 3.8-staging (100% working but obsolete) and 6.0-staging. Using playonlinux, press "Cancel" on the step where it asks for the installer, go to Configure and select your newly created prefix.
Copy the unpacked game files to your prefix, preferably Program Files directory.
In winecfg ("Configure Wine" in Playonlinux) set Windows version to Windows XP. Also you may want to enable virtual desktop emulation and disable options "Allow the windows manager to decorate the windows" and "Allow the windows manager to control the windows"; this is reported to fix the fullscreen mode bug in case you ever run into it.
Open the terminal (with playonlinux don't forget to launch it inside your prefix environment through the Configuration window). Execute winetricks amstream quartz
Launch wineconsole in the game directory wherever you copied it. In the DOS console you've just got execute ioregadd.bat . You probably don't need this step if you don't use the patch mentioned above.
At this point, if you're on pure wine, you can already launch the game providing the LANG=ja_JP.UTF-8 , e.g. "LANG=ja_JP.UTF-8 wine
If you're on Playonlinux, click "Create a new shortcut from this virtual drive", select the game executable. In the options of the newly created shortcut, "Command executed before..." text area, paste LANG=ja_JP.UTF-8
You're ready to go!
What was not tested
Didn't finish the game yet, but any problems in further gameplay are unlikely to occur
This recipe is only for the RIP archived without installer; if you have an ISO image with installer you'll probably need some extra steps.
