Yes, I know wine doesn't really need windows update to function.  But some programs require that certain components be up-to-date.  Also, I have paid for, what, at least 5 windows disks and I think it's within my perrogatives to seek an occasional update.

What does not

The "Download Now" button fails with error 0x800A138F.
Looked in C:\Windows\Windows Update.log and got this:

error     IUENGINE       Determining machine configuration (Error 0x8007000D)

0x8007000D means "Failed to download URL" Most common cause: "incorrect system time"

So I did a wcmd and issued the time command and it was several hours off.
I tried manually copying the time zone info into the registry from my XP box, NC.
Then I copied timedate.cpl from my windows98 disk and it wouldn't run.
Next I copied timedate.cpl from windows xp but it wouldn't allow me to change the time in wine (0 permission).  I suppose I have to set my wine user to administrator.

Workaround: If you must have windows updates, click on the "more info" links and download the files manually.

Workarounds

What was not tested

Setting wine time.  Can't figure out how to do this without changing the time on my linux box (which would lead to problems with cron jobs, etc).  I may just force it to work by patching time

Additional Comments

Gets the bronze because you have to download updates manually.
