Adobe Photoshop Lightroom

Adobe Photoshop Lightroom Classic CC (unofficially development version: version 7.0) was officially released on October 18, 2017. It is the first version of Lightroom that is not available with a perpetual license (one-time purchase price); instead, it must be licensed through a monthly subscription model, with the fee initially set at US$9.99/month. Once the user stops paying the monthly fee, the program will be limited to viewing existing catalogs, without the ability to apply further changes to images.

Application Details:

What works

Importing photos into the Library works perfectly fine. Entering the "Develop" tab, the color controls, tone, and other controls also work exactly how they are supposed to. The "Map" tab also works fine. Entering the "Book" tab, all of the functions work as well. "Slideshow"'s functions also work as intended. If you have a printer and drivers the "Print" tab may work, but I don't have one so I cannot test it. "Web" works too.

What does not

The program's installer does not function correctly. Many menu items such as the "About Lightroom Classic" menu and the "Help" menus crash the program. There are also some minor display glitches (as to be expected on Wine.) Several Creative Cloud related features may not function correctly (same with PS and other CC software.)

(Adapted from Mosin's Photoshop 2020 workaround)

Make sure you have winetricks, wine-mono and wine gecko

Create a Wineprefix:
WINEPREFIX=~/.wine/lightroomclassic winecfg
Change operating system to Windows 7 (have not tested on 8 8.1 and 10)
Make 64bit:
WINEPREFIX=~/.wine/photoshop WINEARCH=win64
Install Libs:
WINEPREFIX=/home/user/.wine/photoshop winetricks vcrun2019 vcrun2012 vcrun2013 vcrun2010 fontsmooth=rgb gdiplus msxml3 msxml6 atmlib corefonts
Enable esync (Optional):
export WINEDEBUG=+esync

Start Program:
WINEPREFIX=~/.wine/lightroomclassic wine [Path to Lightroom Classic]/Lightroom.exe

What was not tested

I have not tested all of the functions and switches. I have only tried basic editing and color correction.

Hardware tested

  • GPU: Nvidia
  • Driver: proprietary

Additional Comments

Tested on the latest version of Manjaro 20.2.1 "Nibia." The instructions were adapted from Mosin's report for Adobe Photoshop 2020. I reccomend using a program such as KMenuEdit or MenuLibre to create an application shortcut to Lightroom Classic.

Adobe Photoshop Lightroom Classic 2020 (version 9.0) was officially released on November 4, 2019.

Almost got it to work

Followed the workaround with Wine 8.9 and was able to load LR Classic and have it running. However, it failed to verify the Adobe login. By default, it opens the linux browser instead of Gecko/IE browser inside Wine. However, when copy and paste the Adobe link into Gecko, Adobe login gave an error saying the browser needs to be updated.
