What works

  • Initial startup window
  • Signing in via browser

What does not

  • Installation failed
    • It reports that drivers cannot be installed
  • Manual copying of files from Windows partition also failed.
    • Copying of both program files and configuration files (i.e. folders that kept login information was symlinked from Windows partition to wine prefix)

Workarounds

  • Manual copying of files from Windows partition

What was not tested

Honestly, I think I've tested almost every possible (thinkable) solution

Hardware tested

Graphics:

  • GPU: Nvidia
  • Driver: proprietary

Additional Comments

  • The main problem with the installation is that Google Drive for Desktop uses Dokan, which is used to create Virtual FileSystems in Windows. This uses (mentioned earlier in the "What Does not Work" section) drivers that presumably only work with Windows
  • Another thing is that it apparently needed the msmpeg2vdec.dll library from the Windows Media Feature Pack. I believe this problem does arise from my very, very old GPU though which doesn't support Vulkan or DirectX
  • If you're reading this, good luck on making this work cause it sure won't for a very long time
