What works

~Installer and Manual Updates Patches~
Working as intended.

~Updater~
Working as intended.
~Translation Patches~
Working as intended.

~UI~
Working as intended (with Translation Patches).

~Game-play and Game-mechanics~
The Graphic run as intended. Although not all area is tested.

What does not

~Fonts~

Japanese characters is unreadable unless you installing Japanese language support.
~SoD Extended (Only if you planning adding it)~

Patcher for SoD Extended (if you planning to use it) won't run unless your WINE have dotnet452 installed.
Also from winecfg, dxgi.dll need to be set as native since WINE version i'm using won't work if set as builtin.

Workarounds

~Japanese Fonts~

If you using GNOME add language support for Japanese if not installed (or you won't have Japanese locale support).

Use winetricks fakejapanese to install necessary (Microsoft) Japanese fonts.

~SoD Extended (Only if you planning adding it)~

run sudo winetricks --self-update if your winetricks from current Ubuntu sudo apt-get install winetricks (outdated so dotnet452 installation won't work for now). Then after fetch latest winetricks you can winetricks dotnet452 to install DotNET 4.5.2 to your WINE along with its dependencies.

Also use winecfg from terminal and set dxgi as native if you intended to using SoD Extended.

and extract Extended Fix (you can also get it from their Discord) to SoD folder and run the game using sod_extended.exe (in Windows I'm using this to avoid crashes from using SoD Extended).

What was not tested

~Network-play~
I'm unfortunately a solo player (for now) so i don't have friend this kind of game (unfortunately).

Hardware tested

Graphics:

  • GPU: Nvidia
  • Driver: proprietary

Additional Comments

~Locale~

if your system not using Japanese as default locale. You need to use env LC_ALL=ja_JP.UTF-8 before WINE to avoid gibberish characters. Personally I'm adding alias jpwine='env LC_ALL=ja_JP.UTF-8 wine' to my .bashrc or .bash_aliases or .profile and using jpwine instead of wine from terminal to avoid typing to many characters.

~Notes~

It's actually quite portable as long as the dependencies is met. Since I can actually just run the program from my old Windows installation as long as the dependency is satisfied (Your experience may vary).

HowTo / Notes

Fixing broken gibberish text

It's usually happen if your default system not in Japanese locale (which is usually ja-JP.UTF-8). Wine running from en-US.UTF-8 locale system will also will follow the locale set by default).

Since this game only released in Japanese by the developer. It's will only follow Japanese locale (which is again usually ja-JP.UTF-8).

Even though this game have unofficial English translation patch due to thankfully the effort made by fans. Usually the patch won't modified the game EXE to support English locale (which is usually en-US.UTF-8).

So to amend this problem you need to add Japanese locale support your system. To do that on Ubuntu, you can add Japanese locale support by searching for Language Support from your Launcher and add Japanese support from there. It'll automatically download and install necessary files. But if you fancy terminal more just use sudo apt-get install language-pack-ja language-pack-ja-base language-pack-gnome-ja language-pack-gnome-ja-base .

Obviously it'll only add support for Japanese locale but won't make the game suddenly use Japanese locale (except, if you suddenly switch to Japanese locale) and since we only want to run that game only in Japanese locale you just need to use terminal to run env LC_ALL=ja_JP.UTF-8 wine path/to/game.exe to run the game in Japanese locale (you can do the same when trying to install the game).

But you depend on your WINE version the game fonts looks very awkward when you run it on Linux and not like when you run it on Windows. Which is obvious since the game will use available fonts on your system and the game intended by the developer to use Windows Japanese fonts.

To amend that one just use (if not installed, you can from terminal you do sudo apt-get install winetricks and then sudo winetricks --self-update) winetricks fakejapanese to install Windows Japanese fonts.
